OUR GOLF SPONSORSHIPS
We’ve established a growing presence in the world of golf. And as a leading supporter of the sport, we are now the Official Airline of 24 golf events worldwide.
As partner of the European Tour, we also support nineteen tournaments that form part of the European Tour International Schedule and The Race to Dubai.
Beyond the European Tour, we sponsor the Boeing Classic (USA) on the PGA Champions Tour in America, as well as Official Partner for the Ryder Cup 2018 in Paris, France.
We are proud to be the official partner of the UBS Hong Kong Open, one of the European Tour’s marquee Asian golf events.
The UBS Hong Kong Open attracts some of the best players from around the world and provides a great platform for us to connect with a global golf audience. Hosted at the Hong Kong Golf Club for over 60 years, the Hong Kong Open is sanctioned by both the European and Asian Tours. Recent winners include Justin Rose, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Rory Mcllroy, and Ian Poulter. It is usually the first event in the European Tour Race to Dubai season.
Our continued support for the European Tour has seen us renew our sponsorship of the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
The USD 8 million DP World Tour Championship, a Rolex Series event at Jumeirah Golf Estates in November hosts the top 50 golfers on the European Tour’s Race to Dubai offering the biggest first tournament prize in global golf – USD 3 million. It is the grand finale of a season long competition spanning 44 tournaments in 28 countries which also crowns the No 1 European Tour Golfer with a bonus pool of USD 5 million for the top 5 players including USD 2 million for the winner.
We are thrilled to be an official partner of The BMW International Open. It is one of the marquee events on the European Tour schedule and the only one to be played in Germany. Founded in 1989, the BMW International Open has always been held in Munich and played at the Golfclub München Eichenried. However, in 2012, it was decided that the BMW International Open will alternate between Cologne and Munich.
With Germany a key destination in our network, our relationship with the BMW International Open is an important platform for us to engage with golf fans in the country. We provide children and golf enthusiasts with unforgettable experiences, including a golf clinic with golf superstars, as part of the tournament program, Emirates provided children and Golf AG students.
We are proud to be associated with the WGC-HSBC Champions, one of four tournaments with world golf championships status.
The inaugural tournament was played in November 2005 at the Sheshan Golf Club, Shanghai, where the event still remains. We have been the event’s partner since it became the WGC-HSBC Champions in 2009.
Outside of the four majors, the WGC-HSBC Champions attracts one of the strongest fields from across the globe. With a prize fund of $10,250,000 in 2019 and world golf championships status, the WGC-HSBC Champions is one not to be missed on the golfing calendar.
We are privileged to be the title sponsor of the Emirates Australian Open, one of the principal annual golf events on the PGA Tour of Australasia, as well as the OneAsia Tour since its formation in 2009.
The Emirates Australian Open, which has been played annually since 1904, takes place towards the end of each calendar year. In recent years, the winner’s podium has been dominated by home golfers, but prior to their grip on the Stonehaven Cup, it had been won by some of the biggest names in golf. These include Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Brad Faxon, and Lee Westwood.
Now widely regarded as one of the premier events on golf’s European Tour, the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open is a Rolex Series event with a USD 7 million prize purse held in May at some of the best golf courses in Ireland. Recent winners include Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy. In 2012, we became the Official Airline of the Irish Open, one of the European Tour’s premier events. This coincided with the launch of our daily service between Dublin and Dubai, and marks our first sponsorship deal in Ireland.
