Before you fly

Traveling to and from the United States

Find out how to apply for an ESTA to travel to the US, and how you can fast track through airport security.

Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA)

Under the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP), citizens of certain nations can apply for an ESTA. This allows you to stay in the United States for up to 90 days without applying for a visa.

How to get an ESTA

If you’re eligible for an ESTA, you need to apply before you travel to the US by air or sea. You can apply for an ESTA online at any time, but we recommend you submit the form no later than 72 hours before your flight.

If your application is denied you should apply for a non-immigrant visa at a US embassy or consulate before you arrive at the airport.

Fast-track screening

We’ve teamed up with the Transport Security Administration (TSA) so you can enjoy fast track screening when you fly from the United States. You can speed through security in the US without having to remove your shoes, laptop, belt, or liquids.

The Department of Homeland Security charges USD 85 for the TSA Precheck service, which covers you for five years. You must meet TSA security regulations first and the process takes two to three weeks after you apply.

Enjoy TSA fast-track screening when you depart from the following US airports:

  • New York (JFK)
  • Houston (IAH)
  • Washington (IAD)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Seattle (SEA)
  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Orlando (MCO)
  • Dallas (DFW)
  • Boston (BOS)

To learn more about the service and to apply, please visit the TSA website.

Please see our terms and conditions. It’s your responsibility to obtain a visa if required and Emirates accepts no liability if you travel without one. An ESTA doesn’t guarantee entry to the US and is subject to immigration approval.
