For travel on Emirates to or from the Americas, the piece concept applies on the entire ticketed journey. Excess baggage allowances will be charged at the point of baggage acceptance through the tagged destination. If your trip involves a stopover, excess baggage allowances will be charged from the stopover point to the final destination at piece concept rates.
If you’re traveling in Emirates Economy Class on a route to which the weight concept applies, your baggage allowance will depend on the type of fare you’ve purchased and when you bought the ticket. Please read our checked baggage page for more information.
For itineraries commencing in any destination in Africa, the piece concept applies. Customers beginning their journey in Africa are allowed two bags of up to 23 kg each in Economy Class, and two bags of up to 32 kg each in First Class or Business Class. This will apply regardless of the country in which the ticket was purchased. If the free baggage allowance is exceeded, excess charges apply.
The baggage allowance for passengers with tickets issued before this date on journeys originating in Africa will continue to be based on the weight concept. This applies regardless of the date of travel. If the free baggage allowance is exceeded, excess charges apply.
If the first flight in your trip departs from any destination in Africa, your free baggage allowance will be based on the piece concept for the entire trip. Read the Africa baggage FAQ for more details.
