As part of Emirates’ sponsorship of the US Tennis Association (USTA), which saw the airline become the title sponsor of the Emirates Airline US Open Series, Emirates also became the Official Airline of the US Open, starting in 2012.
After two weeks of memorable tennis action at this year’s US Open in Flushing Meadows, NY, Rafa Nadal won his second US Open crown and thirteenth Grand Slam, defeating defending world number one Novak Djokovic in four sets, while in the women’s draw, Serena Williams stormed her way to her fifth US Open title.
Emirates kicked-off the 2013 US Open on Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day with an event for the Emirates Returns program. Emirates treated over 50 kids from the NYJTL to a tennis clinic with special guest and tennis legend, Jim Courier. Each kid received a once-and-a-lifetime opportunity to learn tennis from a four time Grand Slam winner and also received an Emirates gift bag, as well as tickets to all other Kids’ Day festivities. This was the last of the 10-part Emirates Returns program aimed at growing the sport of tennis in the US, where Emirates donated over $140,000 in youth tennis equipment and programming to charities throughout the country.
Once the Open began, Emirates was the buzz of the event throughout the grounds, with sponsor booths located outside of Arthur Ashe Stadium. In the Ball Flight Booth, fans were treated to an interactive experience and the opportunity to share it socially on Emirates’ Facebook. After sharing their picture, fans were entered to win two (2) round-trip tickets to Milan. In the other booth, Emirates showcased its First Class seat & Business Class Lounge, where fans could come relax and enjoy the premium accommodations on board the replica A380. Visitors could sample Arabic coffee, experience Emirates’ amenities, and were treated to assorted branded premiums, including luggage tags, seat cushions, lip balm and sunscreen.
Emirates also celebrated the second year of its partnership with the US Open in style on “Emirates Day”. The first 7,000 fans that entered Arthur Ashe Stadium received their very own “Fly Emirates” hat and two lucky fans had their seats upgraded to courtside boxes. After the first match of the night session, tennis great Michael Chang took the court and hit five “Fly Emirates” tennis balls into the stands and one of the lucky fans to catch the specially marked balls won an all-expense paid trip to Milan.
Emirates also hosted a number of guests in the Emirates Luxury Suite, including celebrities such as Jason Sudekis, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Biel, Olivia Munn, Naomi Campbell, Taye Diggs, Randy Jackson, Summer Sanders, Dylan McDermott and Warren Sapp. In addition, tennis legends Michael Chang, Rod Laver, Mats Wilander and Billie Jean King stopped by the Emirates suite to relax and enjoy tennis.
Emirates’ tennis sponsorship portfolio also includes the Rogers Cup, BNP Paribas Open, Dubai Tennis Championships, Internazionali BNL d'Italia, Barcelona Open, Roland Garros and the ATP World Tour.
