A shared consumer focus

A shared consumer focus

Emirates transported 7.3 million passengers to and from the EU in 2010/11 and is strongly committed to providing competitive fares and a choice of departure points - beyond just EU capital cities. Before Emirates entered the market, cities such as Newcastle, Hamburg, Nice and Venice were starved of direct long-haul options, with travellers forced to lose time and convenience by transiting over congested capital city hubs.

On an individual consumer level, Emirates also fully supports the efforts of Europe’s policymakers to enhance consumer protection interests in air transport and has been recently commended regarding transparency in terms of its online reservation practices and inclusive pricing.

"I commend Emirates airline as a non-EU carrier for the observance of Community law and for the commitment to maintain these standards and to consumer protection in general..."

– Meglena Kuneva, European Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, July 2009

Emirates is keen for these priorities to be maintained and will continue to focus on the needs of Europe’s consumers, in line with the EU’s strong policy objectives in this field.
