The airport railway system is currently in a state of flux as it undergoes a period of change, with the old railway system set to be replaced by a new metro line that runs into the city. Currently the old railway line is still running, and the metro line is only operational on one of the six planned lines. It’s assumed that when all six lines open, the current over ground railway will close. Check the airport website for updates on the current travel situation.
The overground track connects the airport's Biman Bandar station to the centre via Dum Dum Junction and Majerhat Station, running from 0630 until 1830 (with one final train to Sealdah junction, also located in the centre of the city, at 2227). The journey time into the central stations is roughly 15-30 minutes. As with any train travel in India, trains are subject to delay and passengers should arrive at the platform well before the scheduled departure time. More information is available on the Indian Railways website (tel: +91 97 1763 0982;
