Baggage

Buy extra baggage allowance

Find out how to purchase additional baggage allowance for your flight if you want to take more with you.

How to buy extra baggage allowance

Your standard baggage allowance depends on your route, class of travel, fare type, and Emirates Skywards membership tier. You can buy extra baggage allowance online for less than you would pay at the airport. You can also use a combination of Cash+Miles to bring down the amount of cash you need to pay for your excess baggage. Otherwise, in most cases you can pay for extra baggage allowance at the check-in desk in the local currency, or through your local Emirates office at current exchange rates.

You can buy extra baggage allowance on adult and child tickets, but not on infant tickets. Tickets must be issued by Emirates (our ticket numbers start with 176) and flights must be operated and marketed by Emirates. Check the terms and conditions for more details.

Save when you buy extra baggage allowance before you check in

We offer special discounts when you buy additional baggage allowance online or at any of our retail or contact centres. To buy your extra baggage allowance online, log in to Manage your booking using your booking reference number. You can check the fees and pay by credit card in the same currency you used to buy your ticket up to four hours before your flight.

Buying allowance at the airport or through Emirates offices

You may need to give yourself some extra time at the airport if you think your baggage may be over your standard allowance.

Please note that we may not have the facility to accept cash or debit card payments at selected airports. Customers should be prepared to make payment for ancillary services using a credit card.

Adding additional weight

If the baggage allowance on your ticket is based on weight (known as the Weight Concept), you can purchase additional kilograms (kg).

With the weight concept, you can check in as many bags as you like as long as the total weight does not exceed the maximum weight for your class of travel. Each individual bag must weigh less than 32kg and the total dimensions (length + width + height) of an individual bag should not exceed 300 cm (118 inches) or 215 cm (84.64 inches) for travel from Dammam International airport.

Buying additional weight before you check in

Get a discount of 50% to 60% on the check-in amount if you buy baggage in advance. The more you buy the greater the discount.

  • Discounts are only available online or at our retail and contact centres up to 4 hours before departure.
  • You can buy extra baggage allowance in blocks of 5kg, up to a maximum of 50kg.

For example:

If you travel from London to India, you would get a 50% discount on the fee for an extra 5kg, and a 60% discount for an extra 20kg.
