Smart bag restrictions

In line with IATA regulations, there will be restrictions on smart bags as checked-in or carry-on baggage on all Emirates flights as follows:

For cabin baggage:

  • Smart bags are allowed in the cabin if the battery is removable and within the cabin baggage size and weight limits.
  • The battery can remain installed as long as the smart bag is completely powered off.
  • If the battery is not removable, the smart bag can’t be carried on an Emirates flight.

For checked baggage:

  • Smart bags are allowed in checked baggage if the battery is removed and carried in the cabin.
  • If the smart bag exceeds the cabin baggage size/weight limitations for the route, or the battery is not removable, then the smart bag can’t be carried on an Emirates flight.

Advisory for customers traveling to and from Dakar, Senegal

From Friday, 8 December, Emirates’ flight operations at Dakar, Senegal, will move to the new Blaise Diagne International Airport which is 50km from the capital Dakar and the old airport. The new airport will operate under the IATA code 'DSS' and will be linked to city code DKR.

Emirates is working closely with authorities for a smooth transition of operations from the old Léopold Sédar Senghor International Airport. As operational readiness tests are ongoing at the new airport, travellers are advised to check the Emirates website or contact the call centre for updates.

Extra security checks for US-bound travellers from 26 October 2017

In line with TSA regulations, there will be extra security checks conducted at check-in and at the boarding gates for passengers travelling to the United States.

Passengers travelling to the US should ensure that:

  • their electronic devices have sufficient charge to switch on
  • they appear in person at check-in with all their baggage and documents

Resumption of direct flights from Auckland to Dubai on 29 September 2017

Emirates will resume direct flights from Auckland to Dubai as per the schedule effective Friday 29 September. EK449 will depart at 9:10pm local time and fly direct to Dubai, landing at 5:30am the following day.

New York John F. Kennedy lounge refurbishment

From 1 September 2017, our lounge in New York John F. Kennedy airport will be temporarily closed for refurbishment.

During this time eligible customers will receive a voucher at check-in to use at a restaurant of their choice in Terminal 4.
