Advance seat selection

Terms and conditions after 20 August 2017


Passengers can reserve seats in advance on all flights operated by Emirates under the following conditions:

  • Seat selection is subject to availability at the time of request.
  • Advance Seat Reservation is only available on or after ticket purchase.
  • Seat selection may not be available for all seats due to operational and safety reasons.
  • Children travelling alone (unaccompanied minors) are not eligible to choose seats in advance.
  • Bassinet seats may be requested, free of charge, by adults travelling with infants.
  • Passengers with special needs requiring specific seating accommodation should contact us so that we can assist in allocating an appropriate seat.
  • Any Advance Seat Reservation charges paid may not be refundable.

We endeavour to seat families with children together at check-in. Children under 13 years of age will always be seated next to an accompanying adult.

Advance Seat Reservation on Regular seats:

  • Complimentary on or after ticket purchase for Economy Class Flex and Economy Class Flex Plus fares.
  • Complimentary when online check-in opens, from 48 hours before departure for Economy Class Special and Economy Class Saver fares.
  • Subject to a charge for Economy Class Special and Economy Class Saver fares (all tickets in booking classes X, V, T, L, Q and N) until online check-in opens.

Advance Seat Reservation on Preferred seats (except on A380 Upper Deck):

  • Complimentary on or after ticket purchase for Economy Class Flex Plus fares.
  • Complimentary when online check-in opens, from 48 hours before departure for Economy Class Special, Economy Class Saver and Economy Class Flex fares.
  • Subject to a charge for Economy Class Special, Economy Class Saver and Economy Class Flex fares (all tickets in booking classes X, V, T, L, Q , N, K, U, B, M, W) until online check-in opens.

Advance Seat Reservation on Preferred Seats on A380 Upper Deck and all Twin seats for all Economy Class fares:

  • Complimentary when online check-in opens, from 48 hours before departure.
  • Subject to a charge for all Economy Class fares until online check-in opens.

Advance Seat Reservation on Extra Legroom seats for all Economy Class fares:

  • Complimentary upon check-in at airport subject to availability.
  • Subject to a charge for all Economy Class fares until check-in at airport.

Terms and conditions for booking an extra legroom seat:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Be able to read and understand instructions in English related to emergency evacuation provided in printed or graphic form and be able to understand oral crew commands.
  • Be fully able-bodied and capable to identify, reach and operate the exit doors in the event of an emergency.
  • Be able to speak well enough to adequately impart information orally to other passengers.
  • Be able and willing to assist the crew and other passengers in the evacuation of the aircraft.
  • Not travelling with infants, children under the age of 18, care giver, persons who require safety assistance for emergency evacuation, or travelling with a guide dog or any other assistance animal.
  • Not using medical equipment, extension seat belt nor requiring any assistance due to reduced mobility.

Extra legroom seats may be re-assigned before or during the journey without any refund if customers do not meet any of the above safety criteria.

Some exit row seats ending in A or K may not be located next to a window due to the emergency exit door placement, and leg space might be partially restricted. If you’d like, you can choose another exit row seat if available.

Where applicable, Advance Seat Reservation charges are:

  • Per passenger, per segment.
  • Subject to change and may vary due to fluctuations in exchange rates.
  • Non-transferable.
  • Subject to refund conditions and limitations.

Exemptions

  • Depending on their tier, Emirates Skywards members may be entitled to complimentary Advance Seat Reservation at ticketing on all Emirates fares and classes of travel, as follows:

  • Please remember to add your Emirates Skywards Platinum, Gold, or Silver membership number to your booking before selecting your seat to enjoy complimentary seat selection at ticketing.
  • For group bookings, seat selection benefits will apply only to Emirates Skywards members and not to accompanying passengers.
  • For all passengers travelling with an infant in the same booking (PNR), Advance Seat Reservation is complimentary on all Emirates fares and classes of travel. Where bassinet seats are available, they may be booked online through the Manage Your Booking section of emirates.com or by calling our contact centres. Please note that our bassinets are approximately 75 x 33 x 22cm (29.5 x 13 x 8.8 inches) in size and can accommodate babies weighing up to 11kg (24.2lb) – see travelling with infants FAQs.

Note: No changes required for terms and conditions for all seats purchased before 20 August 2017.

Advance Seat Reservation changes

Voluntary seat changes on the originally booked flight are allowed as follows:

  • Free of charge for a seat of the same value.
  • Free of charge for a seat of lower value, difference in seat charges are not subject to a refund.
  • At a charge for a seat of higher value.

If you voluntarily change the date of your flight or choose a different flight on the same sector you may select available seats of the same value free of charge. You are not entitled to a refund if, on the new flight, there are no seats of the same value or Advance Seat Reservation is not available. You will lose your Advance Seat Reservation on any modified segments if you make any other changes to your travel itinerary.

We will do our best to provide the seats you reserve. However, we may have to move you to a different seat in case of disruption, aircraft change, or for any other operational, safety or security reasons.

Advance Seat Reservation does not guarantee that you will travel in a particular seat, but that we will provide you your choice of the following seat criteria: regular (window, aisle or middle), preferred (window, aisle or middle), twin, or extra legroom. In case of involuntary seat changes, we will attempt to move you to a similar seat. If you are not satisfied with your replacement seat you may be eligible for a refund.

All passengers with Advance Seat Reservations should check-in for their flight no later than 90 minutes before departure.

Refunds

Advance Seat Reservation refund conditions are independent from ticket refund conditions. In the event of involuntary changes to your seat as a result of operational, safety or security reasons, you will be eligible for a refund in the following circumstances only:

  • Regular seat re-seated on a different type of Regular seat (defined as window, middle or aisle);
  • Preferred seat re-seated on a different type of Preferred (defined as window, middle or aisle);
  • Preferred seat re-seated or on a Regular, Twin or Extra Legroom seat;
  • Twin seat re-seated on a Regular, Preferred or Extra Legroom seat;
  • Extra legroom seat re-seated on a Regular, Preferred or Twin seat;
  • Preferred seat on the upper deck re-seated on the lower deck; or
  • Twin seat on the upper deck re-seated on the lower deck.

Moreover, you will also be eligible for a refund if:

  • We move you to a flight not operated by Emirates; or
  • You booked your flight via www.emirates.com/us/english including a flight sector to or from the USA at least 7 days before departure, and you cancel your flight within 24 hours of booking.

Refund applications for seats booked online and through Emirates retail and contact centres must be submitted after the flight has occurred using our refund form. Refund applications cannot be processed on board or at the airport. You have three months after the date of the last flight in your itinerary to apply for a refund.

Unless otherwise stated, we will refund the full amount (including any refundable tax) to the original form of payment used to pay the Advance Seat Reservation charges.

Please note that Advance Seat Reservation charges will not be refunded in the following cases:

  • You voluntarily cancel your flight.
  • You travel in a higher cabin class due to a voluntary or involuntary upgrade.
  • You lose your Advance Seat Reservation as a result of a voluntary change to your itinerary.
  • You are not entitled to a refund in accordance with these terms and conditions.
