Flights to Sydney

From the minute your flight to Sydney touches down, there’s no shortage of beauty, both natural and manmade – from the Harbour Bridge and iconic Opera House, to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Royal National Park.

It’s easy to see why so many visitors fall in love with this city, a fact accentuated by the growing number of expats who call it home. It’s a hugely popular destination and the culture, dining and nightlife here are as diverse as the city’s population.

Many residents have made their mark by setting up restaurants, cafes and shops boasting their native traditions, which have given rise to the city’s wonderful culinary scene. One of the best examples of this is Chinatown, which has some terrific markets and cafes, all drawing on influences from many different corners of Asia.

But there’s more to restaurants in Sydney than its excellent dim sum joints. There are some truly exceptional dining spots, from Peter Gilmore's spectacular Quay to delicious hole-in-the-wall sushi joints. Sydney has a thriving cafe culture as well.

And you’re going to need that caffeine if you want to get the most out of the city at night. In the evenings, the streets come alive with a mix of students, professionals and visitors. Join them to enjoy a combination of quirky indoor venues and gorgeous al fresco spots dotted along the harbour.

And better still, zipping between places is so easy it’s almost enjoyable. Sydney is home to one of the biggest and best public transport systems in Australia. So pack plenty of energy as you get ready to enjoy one of the most iconic cities in the world.

What to do in Sydney

Be a Pirate

Centuries ago, pirates roamed the waters around Australia. Attack of the Pirates recreates those days on a proper pirate vessel (a traditional tall ship) using actual functioning cannons, sword fights and plenty of (harmless) explosions. You can buy a family pass.

Climb Harbour Bridge

There's no better way to see Sydney than from 134m above the harbour, at the top of one of the world's most iconic bridges. The views from Harbour Bridge are spectacular during the day and downright stunning at night. Bring a camera for the ultimate selfie.

Where to eat in Sydney

Momofuku Seiobo (Asian)

Ben Greeno, the former Noma chef, brought some Australian flair to this New York City spin-off. The food is delicious and the vibe is stylish but laidback – perfect for its location on Pyrmont Street. No wonder it's an eatery that’s been named Restaurant of the Year by Gourmet Traveler Australia.
