Abode Manchester is just a five-minute stroll from both Manchester Piccadilly railway station and the city’s creative core, the Northern Quarter. Housed in a grade II listed building – a former Victorian cotton warehouse – the hotel is best-known as the location of one of the city’s finest restaurants, Michael Caines Restaurant. But on the fifth floor of the property – aptly named Fabulous On Fifth – are five loft-style suites, all themed and some displaying work by artists including Yoko Ono and David Hockney.
Johnny Cash memorabilia is kept to a tasteful minimum in the large, light-filled Johnny Cash Suite, which, with its high ceilings, elegant combination of period features and contemporary furnishings, comfortable bathroom and bedroom and vast lounge area, is the sort of room the late, great Man In Black might have stayed in, rather than a kitsch tribute to the artist. After a day exploring Manchester’s many cultural pleasures and a night enjoying its fine bars and restaurants, give the lift a miss and make your way down the beautiful walnut staircase to a first-class full English breakfast courtesy of chef Dean Wright and his team at Café Bar & Grill.
