Exclusive Platinum Privileges Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions

  1. The Exclusive Platinum Privileges are available to Emirates Skywards Platinum Tier Members who have received a notification from Emirates confirming their eligibility to certain exclusive benefits (the “Exclusive Platinum Privileges”) based on future Spend (as defined below), such members being “Eligible Members”. The Exclusive Platinum Privileges are brought to you by Emirates, a corporation established by Dubai Ruler’s Decree No. 2 of 1985 (as amended) having its principal office at Emirates Group Headquarters, Airport Road, P.O. Box 686, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in its capacity as Emirates Skywards (“Emirates”).

  2. These terms and conditions together with all other terms and conditions that are applicable to the Emirates Skywards Programme (together the "Terms") govern your participation in the Exclusive Platinum Privileges. By participating in the Exclusive Platinum Privileges, you confirm that you have the authority to accept these Terms and you agree to be bound by them. In the event of any dispute regarding these Terms and any other matters relating to the Exclusive Platinum Privileges, Emirates’ decision will be final and binding, and no further correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

  3. Unless otherwise provided herein, capitalised terms used in these Terms shall have the meanings attributed to them in the Emirates Skywards Programme Rules.

  4. Eligible Members will be notified if and when they become eligible to activate Exclusive Platinum Privileges. Members who do not meet the Eligible Member criteria will not be eligible to activate Exclusive Platinum Privileges and will accordingly not be notified.

  5. Notwithstanding the above, Eligible Members will be identified at the sole discretion of Emirates and Emirates gives no warranty or assurance to provide all Members belonging to the Emirates Skywards Platinum Tier the opportunity to activate Exclusive Platinum Privileges, whether within the current or future Platinum Tier Cycles.

  6. Exclusive Platinum Privileges can be activated only during the fixed period of six (6) months during which an Eligible Member has membership to the Emirates Skywards Platinum Tier; beginning from the date when the Member most recently qualified for the Emirates Skywards Platinum Tier, until the Platinum Tier review date published on the Account (the “Platinum Tier Cycle”). For the avoidance of doubt, Platinum Tier Cycle excludes any extensions that may allow select Members an additional period of Platinum Tier membership.

  7. Members who requalify for a Platinum Tier Cycle may, at Emirates’ discretion, be given an opportunity to re-start and activate Exclusive Platinum Privileges for the following year.

  8. Eligible Members will, on the first day of their Platinum Tier Cycle, be provided with the opportunity to activate, in the below stated sequence and only one at a time, up to three (3) Exclusive Platinum Privileges, as defined under and subject to sections 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 below, (collectively referred to as the “Benefits”):
    1. “Tier Miles Rollover” means the option to carry forward Tier Miles, that are earned in excess of the Tier Miles required to requalify for the Platinum Tier, to the next Platinum Tier Cycle;
    2. “Discounted Cabin Upgrade(s)” means the option to apply a 50% discount on the number of Skywards Miles that are otherwise required to be redeemed in order to avail a Business Class to First Class Upgrade Reward on an Emirates operated flight (excluding codeshares);
    3. “Complimentary Cabin Upgrade(s)” means the option to avail a Business Class to First Class Upgrade Reward on an Emirates operated flight (excluding codeshares) without redeeming any Skywards Miles.

  9. Eligible Members can view their progress towards activating the Benefits on their Account; each of the three (3) Benefits would have one of the below statuses:
    1. “In Progress” means Spend towards upcoming travel on Eligible Flights will contribute towards activation of this Benefit, until such time that this Benefit is Activated;
    2. “Locked” means a previous Benefit is In Progress and Spend will not contribute towards activation of this Benefit until such time that all previous Benefits are Activated;
    3. “Activated” means the Target for this Benefit has been met and the Benefit is now available for use.

  10. For the purposes of these Terms only, Spend(s) shall mean the value spent on base fare and carrier charge towards Eligible Flights, excluding any government taxes, fees, commissions and surcharges (the “Spend”).

  11. For the purposes of these Terms only, Eligible Flights shall mean any published commercial fares purchased and flown for travel on any Emirates Flight(s), or Codeshare Flight(s) marketed by Emirates but operated by another airline, between the point of origin and point of destination of the outward and/or return journey, provided that such journeys have been flown within the current Platinum Tier Cycle (the “Eligible Flights”). For the avoidance of doubt, only those Emirates Flights on which a Member has successfully earned Skywards Miles are considered as Eligible Flights. The following types of tickets (as may be amended by Emirates from time to time) are not considered as published commercial fares and accordingly are not considered as Eligible Flights:
    1. employee and staff-travel tickets;
    2. industry and agent discounted tickets;
    3. classic Saver Reward, Classic Flex Reward and Classic Flex Plus Reward tickets;
    4. reward tickets;
    5. contra tickets;
    6. prize and promotional tickets;
    7. consultant and PR tickets;
    8. specially discounted diplomat and government ticket;
    9. free travel and non-scheduled or charter flight tickets;
    10. non-public specially discounted travel tickets;
    11. denied Boarding Options tickets; and
    12. reward tickets issued by other frequent flyer or loyalty programmes in which the Emirates Skywards Programme is a participant.

  12. Benefits will be Activated when the Eligible Member Spends a stated US dollar value on Eligible Flights, as determined by Emirates and notified to the Eligible Member (the “Target”). The Target will be distinct for each Benefit and can vary from Member to Member, determined at the sole discretion of Emirates. At any given point in time, an Eligible Member will only be given one Target and thus be In Progress to activate one Benefit at a time. The Target will be considered met when the Spend for travel on Eligible Flights by an Eligible Member during one Platinum Tier Cycle equals the Target.

  13. No Spend will be recognised in connection with flights which have been booked but not utilised. Spend will be recognised against an Eligible Member’s Target only if such a Member’s Emirates Skywards membership number is quoted for an Eligible Flight. Spend will be recognised only 48 hours after the Skywards Miles for the Eligible Flight has been posted into the Member’s Account. In case of return journeys, Spend will be computed for a one-way journey based on a pro-rated amount of the total ticket price. In case of reissued tickets, Spend will only be recognised against a Member’s Target only after up to 60 days from the date on which the journey was flown. Accordingly, if a Member voids or refunds any part of a ticket, Spend will be recognised partially i.e. for the part of the journey that was completed. Notwithstanding the above, in cases where a Member is upgraded to a different class of travel without a reissuance of their ticket (i.e. without receiving a new ticket number), Spend will be recognised as per the original ticketed class of travel. Similarly, Spend on any ancillary services or fees are not considered as Spend, including but not limited to any baggage fees, seat related fees, priority service fees, change fees, cancellation fees, lounge access fees, etc.

  14. Spend made in a currency other than the US dollar will be converted to US dollars as per the spot-rate prevailing at the time of recognising such Spend against an Eligible Member’s Target. For representational purposes only, the difference between the Target and the Spend until date will also be displayed in the Member’s local currency, determined as per the country of residence updated on the Member’s Account. This difference will vary based on the spot-rate from time to time and Emirates does not guarantee the accuracy of such conversions.

  15. Spend will first contribute towards the Benefit that is In Progress and at no point can the Member choose to contribute Spend towards activating any Benefit out of sequence.

  16. Once Activated, each Benefit is available for use until a certain period, as defined in sections 17 and 21 below (the “Validity Date”), after which any unused Benefits expire. Eligible Members can view the status of these Activated Benefits on their Account; any Benefit that has been Activated would have one of the below statuses:
    1. “Available” means that the Benefit is Activated and can be Used any time up to the Validity Date mentioned against the Benefit on the Member’s Account;
    2. “Used” means the Benefit is no longer Available as it has been utilised before the Validity Date mentioned against the Benefit on the Member’s Account;
    3. “Expired” means the Benefit is no longer Available as it has not been utilized before the Validity Date mentioned against the Benefit on the Member’s Account.

  17. Tier Miles Rollover
    1. Tier Miles Rollover will be the first Benefit that may be Activated by an Eligible Member.
    2. Once Activated, and upon renewing their Platinum tier membership, an Eligible Member may carry forward Tier Miles, that are earned in excess of the Tier Miles required to requalify for the Platinum Tier, to the next Platinum Tier Cycle. The number of Tier Miles that may be carried forward to the next Platinum Tier Cycle is based on the difference between the total Tier Miles balance on the last day of the current Platinum Tier Cycle and the Tier Miles required to requalify to the next Platinum Tier Cycle, up to a maximum of 50,000 Tier Miles. Following this calculation, it may take up to 24 hours for the Tier Miles Rollover to be posted to the Eligible Member’s Account after requalifying for Platinum Tier Cycle. Tier Miles Rollover will reduce the number of Tier Miles required by the Member to requalify for the Platinum Tier.
    3. For the sake of clarity, Tier Miles Rollover will be considered Used when a Member has carried forward up to 50,000 Tier Miles to the next Platinum Tier Cycle and accordingly Tier Miles Rollover is posted to an Eligible Member’s Account. On the other hand, Tier Miles Rollover will be considered Expired when such a Member has not earned, by the Validity Date, Tier Miles in excess of the requirement to requalify for the next Platinum Tier Cycle or not renewed their Platinum tier membership and accordingly no Tier Miles Rollover Activity will be posted to the Eligible Member’s Account. Validity Date in case of Tier Miles Rollover is the last date of the Platinum Tier Cycle in which the Benefit was Activated.
    4. By way of example only: Member A’s current Platinum Tier Cycle is from 01 April 2019 to 31 March 2020. On 25 January 2020, Member A has Activated Tier Miles Rollover but, for this Benefit to be Used, Member A needs to earn Tier Miles in excess of the 150,000 Tier Miles to requalify to the next Platinum Tier Cycle by the Validity Date of 31 March 2020. Come 31 March 2020, Member A’s Tier Miles balance is 173,000 Tier Miles, of which 150,000 Tier Miles will be Used to requalify to the next Platinum Tier Cycle from 01 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 and the balance of 23,000 Tier Miles is carried forward and will contribute towards requalifying for the Platinum Tier.

  18. Discounted Cabin Upgrades
    1. Discounted Cabin Upgrade will be the second Benefit that can be Activated by an Eligible Member, but only after the previous Tier Miles Rollover Benefit has been Activated.
    2. Once Activated and subject to seat availability in each case, one (1) Discounted Cabin Upgrade shall grant the Eligible Member a 50% discount on the number of Skywards Miles typically required for a First Class Upgrade Reward on the relevant Emirates operated flight (excluding codeshares) (the “Discount”). For Pre-check-in Upgrades (as defined below), one (1) Discount may be applied to all applicable Emirates operated flight segments in a single one-way journey (see Pre-check-in Upgrade Example in section 20 below), but will not extend to any other flights or journeys.
    3. For Pre-check-in Upgrades (as defined below), Discounted Cabin Upgrades can be utilised by Eligible Members for themselves or on behalf of any nominated person of the applicable Eligible Member’s choosing so long as the traveller receiving the First Class Upgrade Reward holds a confirmed eligible Business Class ticket, booked in Saver or Flex or Flex Plus Fare, on the relevant Emirates operated flight segment. Upon utilisation, the Discount will be applied and Skywards Miles will be redeemed from the Eligible Member’s Account and the Discounted Cabin Upgrade Benefit shall be considered Used. For details on who is eligible to receive the benefit of a Discounted Cabin Upgrade in the case of Airport Upgrades (as defined below), refer to section 20.3.2.

  19. Complimentary Cabin Upgrades
    1. Complimentary Cabin Upgrade will be the third Benefit that can be Activated by an Eligible Member, but only after the previous Discounted Cabin Upgrade Benefit has been Activated.
    2. Once Activated and subject to seat availability in each case, one (1) Complimentary Cabin Upgrade shall grant the Eligible Member a free Business Class to First Class Upgrade Reward on an Emirates operated flight segment without redeeming any Skywards Miles. For Pre-check-in Upgrades (as defined below), one (1) Complimentary Cabin Upgrade may be Used for a First Class Upgrade Reward for one person to all applicable Emirates operated flight segments in a single one-way journey (see Pre-check-in Upgrade Example in section 20 below), and will not extend to any other flight segment or one-way journey.
    3. For Pre-check-in Upgrades (as defined below), Complimentary Cabin Upgrades can be utilised by Eligible Members for themselves or on behalf of any nominated person of the applicable Eligible Member’s choosing so long as the traveller receiving the First Class Upgrade Reward holds a confirmed eligible Business Class ticket, booked in Saver or Flex or Flex Plus Fare, on the relevant Emirates operated flight segment. Upon utilisation, the Complimentary Cabin Upgrade Benefit will be considered Used. For details on who is eligible to receive the benefit of a Complimentary Cabin Upgrade in the case of Airport Upgrades (as defined below), refer to section 20.3.2.

  20. Using Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Upgrades
    1. Eligible Members can use an Activated Discounted Cabin Upgrade or Complimentary Cabin Upgrade on an eligible Emirates operated flight (excluding codeshares) via one of the following methods (subject to seat availability in each case):
      1. by contacting an Emirates Contact Centre (via the telephone numbers published or via the web chat option available on Emirates.com) or via emirates.com prior to checking in to their Emirates operated flight and at least six (6) hours before the stated departure time of the first Emirates operated flight segment in the passenger’s journey itinerary (a “Pre-check-in Upgrade”); or
      2. at the airport by contacting a member of Emirates staff either at (i) an Emirates check-in desk, (ii) an Emirates lounge, or (iii) the applicable boarding gate (an “Airport Upgrade”), subject to and in accordance with section 20.3 below.
    2. Pre-check-in Upgrade Example: Eligible Member A wishes to upgrade an Emirates Business Flex round-trip ticket for self from London Heathrow (LHR) to Sydney (SYD) via Dubai (DXB), and does so as a Pre-check-in Upgrade. If Eligible Member A uses an Activated Discounted Cabin Upgrade or a Complimentary Cabin Upgrade, such upgrade shall only apply on either:
      1. the outbound Emirates operated flight segment between LHR-DXB and then the outbound Emirates operated flight segment between DXB-SYD, but not any part of the inbound journey between SYD-LHR; OR
      2. the inbound Emirates operated flight segment between SYD-DXB and then the inbound Emirates operated flight segment between DXB-LHR, but not any part of the outbound journey between LHR-SYD.
    3. In respect of Airport Upgrades:
      1. Eligible Members will be able to avail an Activated Discounted Cabin Upgrade and/or Complimentary Cabin upgrade offered to them at the airport for the benefit of themselves (as Eligible Members) or for another passenger who is accompanying such Eligible Member on the same flight segment; and
      2. Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades are only applicable and available in respect of a single Emirates operated flight segment in any journey, which shall be the flight segment that the Eligible Member is taking from the airport at which they avail the Benefit, and will not extend to any (i) other flight segment in the applicable outbound or inbound journey, or (ii) any other flight segment in a return booking (see Example below).

        Airport Upgrade Example: Eligible Member A wishes to upgrade an Emirates Business Flex one-way ticket for themselves for the following journey: London Heathrow (LHR) to Sydney (SYD) via Dubai (DXB). If Eligible Member A is at LHR airport for the LHR-DXB flight segment, where they use an Activated Discounted Cabin Upgrade or a Complimentary Cabin Upgrade, in which case such upgrade shall only apply in respect of the LHR-DXB flight segment of the Eligible Member’s journey, and not the DXB-SYD flight segment. To use an Activated Discounted Cabin Upgrade or a Complimentary Cabin Upgrade to upgrade the DXB-SYD flight segment, the Eligible Member may only do so at DXB airport, subject to seat availability.

    2. Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades cannot be availed by Eligible Members once they have boarded their applicable flight and are subject to seat availability at all times.
    3. Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades will have a Validity Date of six (6) months from the date on which this Benefit was Activated. Accordingly, Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades will be considered Used when a First Class Upgrade Reward has been booked and confirmed before the Validity Date ends, irrespective of the actual date of travel. Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades that have been Used within the Validity Period but not flown can be cancelled and made Available back in the Eligible Member’s Account within 72 hours, so long as the Validity Date has not passed and such a request has been made prior to check-in and at least six (6) hours prior to commencement of the journey. Such Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades will continue to have the same Validity Date as previously mentioned. Except in case of involuntary changes, Discounted Cabin Upgrades and Complimentary Cabin Upgrades will be considered as Used when an itinerary has been partially flown, and when requests to modify or cancel are made after check-in or less than six (6) hours prior to commencement of the journey and in cases of no-show.
