OUR SAILING SPONSORSHIP

Our continued support of world-class sailing

We firmly established our support for sailing in 2004, when we became the naming sponsor of Emirates Team New Zealand. Since then we have also become the Official Airline partner of the 36^th^ America’s Cup presented by Prada, which includes the America’s Cup World Series (ACWS), sponsoring preliminary regattas leading up to the main event in 2021. We are also the Presenting Partner of the ACWS event in the UK.

Emirates Team New Zealand

We have enjoyed memorable journeys with Emirates Team New Zealand since 2004. It’s a relationship based not only on a passion for bringing people together through sport, but on striving for excellence with focus and a vision for success.

The team is the most successful in recent America’s Cup history, winning the oldest trophy in international sport in 1995 and 2000. In 2017 they won the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda by 7-1 against challengers Oracle Team USA.  Emirates SkyCargo, our freight division, transported the team’s racing boat, Aotearoa, from Auckland to Bermuda ahead of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup competition.

America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth

The America’s Cup World Series (ACWS) is the competition to win the oldest sporting trophy in the world. As the Official Presenting Partner of ACWS Portsmouth, we helped ensure that world-class America’s Cup sailors would return to the Solent for the preliminary regatta.

Speaking of the partnership, Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates airline, said, “Emirates is proud to expand its commitment to the United Kingdom, which we service with over 130 weekly flights, by bringing world-class sailing boats to the shores of the UK and giving Portsmouth City the chance to host and show its visitors the most sensational event in the sailing calendar. The America’s Cup has grown to become one of the world’s greatest major sporting events and we look forward to use this great platform to share and grow the passion for sailing as a sport and bring communities together.”
