Flights to Manchester
Wellington International Airport is 6km south-east of Wellington city centre in the suburb of Rongotai. There’s no train station at the airport, so you’ll need to travel by road prior to your flight to Manchester.
The Airport Express bus runs from Wellington Railway Station to Wellington Airport, stopping at the likes of Lambton Quay, Hataitai and Kilbirnie. Services take around 30 minutes and depart multiple times each hour – except late at night and in the early hours of the morning.
You could also take the Metlink Route 2 bus from Lambton Quay North – close to Wellington Railway Station – which stops a short walk away from the airport.
Driving to Wellington Airport from central Wellington ahead of your flight to Manchester will take roughly 25 minutes, depending on traffic and the time of day. The airport has a valet parking service, allowing you to leave your car outside the terminal building, as well as a covered multi-level car park that’s less than a five-minute walk from check-in. There are other parking options further from the terminal, some of which are connected by a shuttle service.

Manchester Airport is 11km south-west of central Manchester and one of Europe’s busiest airports – so it’s much larger than Wellington Airport. There are several ways you can reach the city centre. There are regular trains to Manchester Piccadilly station, which take roughly 20 minutes. You can book your entire journey with Emirates and pay one fare thanks to our First TransPennine Express partnership.
Alternatively, you can take the Metrolink tram service from Manchester Airport to Manchester Victoria station. The route features several stops throughout the city and takes just under an hour. You could also make use of our partnership with National Express, which allows you to book your flight and coach journey from Manchester Airport to the city centre on one ticket. Get to Manchester Coach Station on Chorlton Street in 25 minutes, or book travel to more than 25 other destinations around the UK.
By car, the journey from Manchester Airport to Manchester city centre takes around 20 minutes. First Class or Business Class passengers can use our Chauffeur-drive service and enjoy the premium, peaceful surroundings of a luxury car as you’re driven to your destination.
