What to do in Naples

  • Climb Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius is a colossal volcano that provides the city of Naples with an extraordinary backdrop. Get a shuttle bus to the lower slopes and hike along the Gran Cono trail for around an hour, reaching over 1,000m above sea level. Take in staggering views over the Bay of Naples, Pompeii and the Apennine mountains as you stand on the crater rim.
  • Ride the Central Funicular
Naples’ Central Funicular is one of the most used funicular railways in the world, stopping at four popular piazzas (squares) throughout the city. Travel 1,270m and climb 170m as you ascend from Piazza Fuga to the charming Piazza Vanvitelli. The latter, the final stop on the route, is an ideal spot to grab a coffee from one of its many buzzing cafés.
  • Unwind at the Santa Chiara Monastery
A peaceful haven among Naples’ buzzy streets, the 14th-century Santa Chiara Monastery features tranquil gardens and a stunning central cloister. Side-step through the hubbub of Piazza del Gesu to enter this charming oasis and stroll among its elegantly designed corridors and archways, admiring the beautiful majolica tile art that adorns its benches, pillars and walls.
