Flights to Boston

Small and walkable, Boston is jam-packed with centuries-old landmarks, gorgeous parks, world-class universities and some of America’s best restaurants.

Wherever you’re headed after your flight to Boston lands, you’ll find each neighbourhood in the compact city has a unique appeal – the wealthy Back Bay, the trendy South End, the historic Beacon Hill – while Cambridge, just across the exquisite Charles River, has a thriving cultural and culinary scene all its own. At the heart of the city are baseball’s Boston Red Sox, and their iconic Fenway Park stadium.

Exploring Boston is best on foot. Stroll along the Freedom Trail, visiting the Old State House Museum for a taste of American history (its impressive collection includes tea from the Boston Tea Party); explore the Greenway with its new public parks; and walk the leafy banks of the Charles River.

Boston is brimming with impressive cultural attractions that you won’t want to miss. It boasts many museums, including the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, which looks like a 15th century Venetian palace but has a brand new wing designed in uber-modern style by Renzo Piano. The Institute of Contemporary Art is another architectural triumph, dominating the waterfront with its dramatic glass walls and outdoor deck.

Sightseeing in Boston certainly is rewarding, and it can build up an appetite. The city has an exciting culinary scene that's constantly evolving – celebrity chefs like Barbara Lynch have opened chic restaurants across the city. Boston's traditional roots are still strong, though, and staples like New England clam chowder, Boston cream pie and oysters are all widely available.

Taste of Boston - Johnnycakes at Neptune Oyster

Boston’s Neptune Oyster, opened in 2006 by Jeff and Kelli Nace, specialises in seafood dishes, including this American classic, originally created by the native Algonquin Indians. Called journey cakes by the settlers, because they could be carried on long voyages in saddlebags and cooked along the way, historians believe the colonist slurred the words, pronouncing it Johnnycake. Johnnycakes were served at the first thanksgiving feast, which lasted three days Read more Taste of Boston - Johnnycakes at Neptune Oyster

Jack Kerouac's Lowell, Massachusetts

Adrian Mourby visits Lowell, Massachusetts, the birthplace of one of America’s most famous 20th century writers, Jack Kerouac – and the town the author once described as “the most interesting place in the United States”. Dawn comes quietly to Lowell, illuminating the huge rooftop sign over the Lowell Sun building. Jack Kerouac, the author who gave voice to America’s mid-20th century Beat Generation, worked here 75 years ago. Today it stands huge and empty Read more Jack Kerouac's Lowell, Massachusetts

Newbury Street, Boston

Just one-mile long, downtown Boston’s iconic Newbury Street is a quintessential New England blend of upscale shopping and single-family brownstones. But it wasn’t always so. Many of the neighbourhood’s historic landmarks date back more than a century, when the Back Bay district was still an actual bay of water between Boston and Cambridge. Several prominent 19th century architects developed the filled land district Read more Newbury Street, Boston
