What is the weight and piece concept?

In line with international regulations, your free baggage allowances will either be set by how many pieces of luggage or the total amount of weight you can travel with. The rules depend on where you’re travelling to and from.

Piece concept:

If you’re travelling to or from Canada, North America, Central America or South America, or you’re travelling from Africa, you’ll need to follow the rules of the piece concept.

This determines how many pieces you can travel with, and the maximum weight and dimensions of your pieces of luggage.

The total dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece must not exceed 150cm (59 inches). You’ll be charged an additional fee for any individual items exceeding dimensions of 150cm (59 inches), up to a maximum of 300cm (118 inches). If an individual item has total dimensions greater than 300cm (118 inches), it can’t be checked in as baggage and will need to be sent as cargo or freight.

Please note if you purchased a ticket before 1 August 2017 with a flight to or from Brazil, you can take two bags of up to 32kg each in Economy Class.

Weight concept:

The standard free baggage allowance for all other Emirates destinations  is 50kg for First Class and 40kg for Business Class. For Economy Class passengers, your baggage allowance depends on the type of fare you purchase. Special Economy fares get 20kg, Saver and Flex get 30kg and Flex Plus get 35kg.

Economy Class customers travelling to and from Argentina (excluding flights between Argentina and Brazil) can check in two bags, each weighing up to 23kg.

Different Economy Class baggage allowances apply if your ticket was issued before 20 June 2016
