GROUND PARTNERS
Now it’s easier for you to plan your journey to and from the airport in Madrid and Barcelona.
We’ve partnered with Renfe rail to offer you a combined flight and rail journey in one ticket. Fly with us to and from Madrid or Barcelona, and connect to the airport by train with our partner Renfe. Book your entire journey with us and pay one fare from your departure point through to your final destination.
Connect between Madrid Atocha train station, Madrid Chamartin or Barcelona Sants and more than 25 cities on the modern and fast Renfe network.
If there’s a train or flight delay, your ticket fare covers all train connections. You’ll have the convenience of one combined ticket, and you can enjoy our generous baggage allowance along your entire journey.
Plan your rail journey with the Renfe route map(Opens an external website in a new tab).
Simply book online with us by selecting your departure and/or arrival destination when requesting your flight. You can travel from stations across Spain to the airport, or from the airport to stations across Spain.
Once you’ve booked on our website, we’ll send your Emirates flight ticket, which will include a reference number for your rail journey. Use this number to check in directly with RENFE and print your train ticket. We’ve included the details of how to do that below. Please note this is a mandatory part of the process and your printed train ticket must be presented at the time of boarding the train.
If you’re booking through an Emirates office or a travel agent, ask them to add the train service before they complete your booking.
If you’re a member of both Emirates Skywards and Renfe’s loyalty programme, only Skywards Miles apply to your ticket as it’s considered as a flight fare. Unfortunately you can’t book a combined rail and flight ticket on a Skywards reward booking.
The Emirates ticket cannot be used to board the Renfe train. You must print out your Renfe ticket or write down the number shown on its upper left hand side. Use this number to print a copy of your train ticket from Renfe ticket vending machines, located in most railway stations.
However we highly recommend you to print your Renfe train ticket through the check-in section of accessrail.com within 72 hours of your scheduled train departure for both the inbound and the outbound journey. Enter the reference number locator or your e-ticket number (in the format 176-1234567890) along with your full name as written in your e-ticket in the form on the webpage.
If you’re travelling with an infant under two years old who will not be occupying a seat, your child will not need a ticket to travel on Renfe. Please arrive at the railway station waiting hall at least 30 minutes before your train departure.
Renfe does not operate direct services between Madrid and Barcelona airports and the regional points in Spain. Therefore, passengers must transfer trains at the train stations in downtown.
If you have scheduled an AVE-Alta Velocidad train (please check this in the Renfe ticket), you can use suburban cercanías trains free of charge (including transfers between the airport and the train station). You can get your ticket from ticket o¬ffices or vending machines located in the train stations of Madrid and Barcelona Sants. You will need to enter in the five-digit pass code called Combinado Cercanias which is located in the left upper corner of your ticket. You may also be able to scan the barcode to retrieve your ticket. If you have scheduled a train other than an AVE (e.g.: ALARIS, ALVIA, EUROMED, or any other), you can buy the suburban cercanías train ticket from ticket offi¬ces or vending machines for approximately €5 (amount subject to change).
