Emirates and USTA Foundation Unveil First Refurbished Brooklyn Tennis Courts as part of ‘Force For Good’ Programme Launch

New York - 7 September 2024:  Emirates and the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Foundation have unveiled the refurbishment of the first three courts at Brooklyn’s De Hostos Playground funded by Emirates’ new “Force for Good” court refurbishment initiative. Emirates will donate a total of USD 2.5 million over five years to support the transformation of community tennis courts across the US and provide youth with education programming.

The three tennis courts were revealed during a ribbon cutting ceremony inaugurated by officials from Emirates, USTA Foundation, Kings County Tennis League (KCTL), public officials of NYC, in addition to tennis legend James Blake, who was the first to play the new courts. Youth from across Brooklyn who stand to benefit from the initiative were also present at the official opening of the tennis courts.

A commemorative plaque was presented to Essa Sulaiman Ahmad, Emirates’ Divisional Vice President – USA and Canada to mark the support provided to make the initiative possible. Brooklyn’s De Hostos Playground is the first to benefit from the initiative, with additional projects set to roll out and touch the lives of youth and families across US cities.

Emirates is the Official Airline of the US Open and has been a proud partner since 2012. The airline began its US operations with services to New York JFK in 2004, and today operates to 12 US cities.  

As a global airline, Emirates’ “Force for Good” initiative will also support social impact initiatives across the UK where it has joined forces with Wimbledon to support local communities.
