Avid writers and photographers in the UAE invited to ‘Capture 380’

6 October 2015 – Dubai, U.A.E – Emirates, in collaboration with the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature has launched its first competition focused on photography and creative writing. Capture 380 is a competition that will give participants in the UAE the opportunity to bring together words and images in creative and inventive ways to illustrate ‘time’, the Festival’s theme for 2016.

The competition begins today, 6 October and the closing date for entries is 10 January 2016.

Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President Commercial Operations, Centre, commented on the new initiative: “This competition builds on our efforts to find meaningful ways to connect and engage with the local community in our home base of the UAE, and inspire young people to think creatively, especially when it comes to their own travel aspirations. We are confident that the competition will attract a good response, and we look forward to highlighting the best photos and captions at the 2016 edition of the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature.”

Isobel Abulhoul OBE, CEO and Trustee Emirates Literature Foundation and Festival Director said: “I am so excited about this new competition which mixes two mediums, photography -  which has such a visual impact  on us, and words – which  have immense power to affect us  at various levels. The intertwining of images with captions  is bound to spark the imaginations of  the up and coming generation.  I can’t wait to see and read the best entries. The prizes, thanks to Emirates Airline,  are amazing and will encourage everyone to come up with stunning images and oh so clever captions! Good luck to all of you!”

Those wishing to participate are required to submit an original photo accompanied by up to 380 words in a caption format in prose or poetry that enhance and imaginatively interpret the image. Entrants will be judged on the quality of their writing, and on the originality of their approach for a chance to win four tickets, in each language category (English and Arabic), to any Emirates A380 destination of their choice. The competition is open to UAE Nationals and residents aged 14 to 25.

Shortlisted participants and winners will be announced at the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, which takes place from 1-12 March 2016, and their entries will also be exhibited during the event.
