Emirates Takes to the Skies in Abu Dhabi to Celebrate UAE National Day

DUBAI, U.A.E., 1st December 2011: National Day revelers in the country’s capital witnessed an Emirates A380 fly past today, in honour of the nation’s 40th anniversary.

The Emirates A380, adorned with the country’s special anniversary logo undertook a low pass at 1,000 feet over Abu Dhabi Corniche and Yas Island, in full view of spectators out celebrating the Capital’s National Day festivities.

“Emirates is incredibly proud to take part in the 40th UAE National Day celebrations. Since 1985 we have flown the country’s flag on our tailfin, in honour of our commitment to this remarkable country,” said Adel Al Redha, Emirates Executive Vice President, Engineering and Operations. “Today’s celebratory flight is dedicated to the esteemed leaders of the UAE who have always supported Emirates in becoming the leading global airline that we are today. We extend our congratulations to the UAE leadership and the Emirati people on this memorable occasion of national unity.”

Emirates’ A380 Abu Dhabi fly past was crewed by an all UAE National Flight Deck including; Captain Abbas Shaban, Captain Hassan Al Hammadi, Captain Ali Kashwani and First Officer Saeed Al Maktoum.

The celebratory flight took off from Dubai International Airport before making its way to Abu Dhabi Corniche. The full duration of the flight was one hour and 40 minutes with the aircraft circling both the Corniche and Yas Island several times to allow spectators to take the perfect photo.

Emirates currently has 18 A380’s in its fleet and will today mark its inaugural A380 service to Rome.
