Flights to Adelaide

A city with pristine beaches dotted around its coastline, Adelaide’s many festivals and cultural and sporting events have travellers coming back year after year. In fact, you may find your flight to Adelaide leads to a longer stay, as it’s also considered one of Australia’s most liveable cities.

The city centre is easy to navigate, with billions of dollars invested in making sure the public transport system – which consists of rail and tram lines – is up to scratch. Once you’re done exploring the inner city attractions, such as the world-famous Adelaide Oval, the Adelaide Convention Centre and Adelaide Central Market, it’s time to hit the beaches. The pretty seaside town of Glenelg is just a tram ride away, and the surfing paradise of Waitpinga is worth a visit too.

Adelaide began as a British outpost in 1836, taking its name from Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, queen consort to King William IV, and earning the nickname ‘City of Churches’. Nowadays its population is far more diverse, and people from all cultures and walks of life call it home.

Partly as a result of its cosmopolitan nature, Adelaide is one of the biggest foodie destinations in Australia. There’s a huge range of cuisines on offer, but residents also take great pride in their local food, including some of the best cheese you’ll ever taste from this part of the world.
Overall, Adelaide is a smart city with a glorious climate for a sunny summer holiday filled with good food, trips to the beach, and relaxing walks through picturesque parks. This Australian destination is not to be missed.

What to do in Adelaide

Walk the North Terrace

As one of the city’s cultural centres, the North Terrace includes attractions such as the Art Gallery of South Australia (which makes a good starting point), the Migration Museum and the South Australian Museum. The Governor lives in the nearby Government House, and students from the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia stop by on their way to class.

Adelaide Central Market

This is a brilliant bazaar, where you’ll find stalls selling fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, smoked meats, seafood and more from farms in the surrounding area. Pick and choose your way from one stall to the next, or just wander the aisles.

Tour the Adelaide Oval

Since its AU$500 million renovation, Adelaide Oval is even better than before. As one of the finest cricket stadiums in the country, the Oval hosts events all the time; head over to catch a match (or a concert), or simply take a tour and see the Bradman Collection, relics from the career of legendary batsman Sir Donald Bradman.

Where to eat in Adelaide

Faraja (International)

One of the city’s best restaurants, Faraja takes its name from the Swahili word for comfort. It’s a casual spot and great for a group. Order a few sharing plates – try the chilli squid or the sticky beef ribs. If you’re ‘in’ with the locals, make up a group of ten or more and try the Chef’s Choice selection.

Windy Point (Australian)

Located 15 minutes from the city centre, the Windy Point restaurant has some of the best views in Adelaide, with a stunning dining room that overlooks the city in every direction. The food more than matches up to the location, with a modern Australian menu that includes surf and turf, wagyu beef, and kangaroo.

You can stay cosy by the fire or enjoy al fresco dining beneath an almost 200-year-old pepper tree. Expect live entertainment on special occasions, too.
