Travel to Maldives

If you are travelling to the Maldives, you may be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test before departure.

Travel eligibility

Passengers travelling to the Maldives as tourists must have a confirmed hotel reservation for their stay at a registered tourist facility. The visa on arrival facility is currently available.

COVID-19 testing requirements

Effective 10 September 2020, all tourists and travellers entering the Maldives for a short-term stay must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test result. The test must be conducted within 96 hours of departure from the first port of embarkation. Passengers who have transited for more than 24 hours must repeat the test. The certificate must have the name of the passenger as in the passport and name and address of the testing laboratory.

Passengers and airline crew are subject to medical screening on arrival.

Exemptions

The following categories of travellers are exempted from pre-arrival COVID-19 PCR test requirements:

  • Citizens of Maldives
  • Holders of Employment Visas
  • Holders of Dependent Visas
  • Holders of Student Visas
  • Holders of Marriage Visas
  • Children below one year of age
  • Flight crew arriving on General Declaration

Maldivian citizens and Work Visa holders travelling to Maldives and staying in Greater Male' area (Male', Hulhumale' and Villimale') are exempted from home quarantine if they are in possession of a COVID-19 negative PCR test result (test sample taken not more than 96 hours prior to the scheduled time of departure from the first port of embarkation en-route to the Maldives). It is strongly recommended that the individuals and/or employers (of work visa holders) to upload COVID-19 negative PCR test result to Maldives Immigration website portal prior to departure to the Maldives.

Required forms

Complete the online Immigration and Health self-declaration form within 24 hours of your flight. A negative COVID-19 PCR test result has to be attached along with the online Immigration and Health self-declaration form.

Quarantine

Residents of Maldives (nationals and expatriates) have to undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine on arrival.

This is also applicable for residents (nationals and expatriates) who stayed in transit in the United Kingdom for more than 12 hours or travelled to the United Kingdom within the past 14 days.

Travel from Maldives

If you are travelling from the Maldives, you may be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test and submit additional documentation before departure. Please check the requirements of your specific destination before you travel.

COVID-19 testing requirements

It is mandatory that customers confirm the COVID-19 PCR test requirements as per the regulations of the destination country and present the test result certificate at check-in. Please contact your resort’s guest relations department for assistance with COVID-19 PCR testing, if required.

Tourist visa holders residing in guest houses shall provide COVID-19 negative PCR Test result done within 72 hours prior to check-in at the airport. Tourists shall contact the respective guest house management to facilitate the COVID-19 PCR tests. It is advised to stay in guest house and not to proceed to the airport before a negative COVID-19 PCR test result is obtained.

Complete and submit a health declaration form online within 24 hours of your flight and present the health declaration form completion code/QR code at check-in.
