Travel to Iraq

If you are travelling to Iraq, you are required to take a COVID-19 PCR test and submit applicable documents before departure. Please also note that it is mandatory to wear facial masks throughout Baghdad (BGW) and Basra (BSR) airports.

Only Iraqi nationals and diplomats can travel to Iraq from Austria, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Ireland, India, Iran, Luxembourg, Netherlands, South Africa, Slovakia , Spain , USA , United Kingdom, Zambia and Japan with the requirement of COVID 19 PCR test 72 hours before departure and subject to quarantine for 14 days after arrival until COVID 19 PCR test result are received.

Lebanese nationalities are restricted from travel to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.

Following passengers can travel without an OK to board:

  • Passengers holding a valid sticker visa
  • Passengers holding a paper visa and a return ticket, and this will be under the responsibility of the passenger

Passengers holding a paper visa and one-way ticket require an OK to board approval. They must submit copies of their passport, PNR and visa 48 hours before their date of travel. The required documents must be submitted to:

COVID-19 PCR testing

All passengers travelling to Iraq must carry a negative COVID‑19 PCR test result certificate. A certificate from any government approved lab will be acceptable. The test result must be issued not more than 72 hours before arrival.

Passengers traveling to Basra must have a printed medical certificate with a negative coronavirus COVID-19 PCR test or RT-PCR test result. The test must have been taken at most 72 hours before arrival and the certificate must be in Arabic or English.

Passengers traveling to Baghdad must have a medical certificate with a negative coronavirus COVID-19 PCR test result issued at most 72 hours before departure.

Quarantine rules

Passengers entering Iraq as per the above mentioned regulations, will be subject to a 14 day quarantine.

Exemptions

All children under the age of 10 departing or arriving to Iraq are exempt from COVID-19 PCR test requirements.

Entry exceptions are granted for Diplomats, Official Government Delegations and working employees of International Organizations and Associations.

Travel from Iraq

If you are travelling from Iraq, you will be required to take a COVID-19 PCR test before travel. UN Medical Clinic COVID-19 PCR certificates are accepted for UN staff only.

Also note that it is mandatory to wear facial masks throughout Baghdad (BGW) and Basra (BSR) airports.

All staff and passengers will be subject to thermal scanning and any passenger who shows symptoms of flu will not be allowed to check‑in. They will then be taken to a medical centre for further testing.
