Flights to Glasgow

Glasgow is regularly named among the top destinations to visit in the UK and it’s easy to see why. Scotland’s largest city might not be the capital – that’s Edinburgh, on the east coast – but it’s certainly a capital of culture. Flights to Glasgow will help you understand why the city is renowned for its vibrant creative arts and music scene, as well as some of the best restaurants, lounges, and live music venues in the world.

Glasgow city centre, known as the Merchant City, is home to some the best places to eat, drink and shop in Europe – including the impressive shopping mall, the St Enoch Centre. There are markets, museums and art galleries everywhere, including the beautiful Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, and lots of traditional eateries offering a warming ambience when the weather gets chilly. These cosy nooks are also good spots to try local dishes, such as haggis with ‘tatties and neaps’ (potatoes and turnips) and ‘cock-a-leekie’ (chicken and leek) soup.

As one of the finest Victorian cities in Great Britain, the city is rich in history too. You can stroll along the River Clyde and soak up Glasgow’s maritime past, before stopping along the waterfront for a coffee. For sports fans, Glasgow is home to not one but two historic football teams – Celtic and Rangers – one of the oldest and greatest rivalries in club football, the Old Firm derby.

This passion extends beyond the sporting arena: the city is proud of its past and its traditions, but is also always looking ahead to the future. And as brilliant as the place is, it’s really the people who make Glasgow. Scots are nothing if not convivial, and Glaswegians bring a charm that’s as unique as it is appealing.

What to do in Glasgow

Visit the Necropolis

Friends of the Necropolis offer free two-hour walking tours around the historic site from which the organisation takes its name. The passionate, very knowledgeable volunteer guides will tell you all about the lives – and often fascinating deaths – of the graveyard's residents. And the views over Glasgow are spectacular.

Drive to Loch Lomond

When you’re standing in the middle of the city centre, you wouldn’t believe that Loch Lomond is just a 30-minute drive out of town. In and around the freshwater loch is perfect for canoeing, hiking and mountain-biking, while Britain’s biggest stretch of open water is full of wildlife.

Old Salty's (Seafood)

You can’t leave Scotland without eating something coated in batter – this is the land that gave the world deep-fried Mars Bars, after all. Glaswegians love their fish and chips, and Old Salty’s serves up some of the best in town. For a lighter bite, try their grilled tiger prawns with lemon and chilli.

Get chatting to one of McCune's regulars and they'll tell you this stylish cafe is the best in all of Glasgow. Its menu regularly changes, but try something like rye bread stuffed with scrapple (a meatloaf made with cornmeal), fresh apple and cranberry sauce, and it’s hard to disagree.
