Safety is one of Emirates’ core values, and it is the cornerstone of all our operations and practices. We are committed to maintaining and improving our levels of safety, and to nurturing a Safety Culture throughout our company.
Emirates has earned a reputation for offering industry-leading services on the latest and most efficient wide-body aircraft in the skies, and this success is underpinned by safety, which is always our top priority.
Over 50 million passengers travelled on Emirates last year across its global network of over 150 destinations, and as our passenger and destination count continues to grow; managing safety at the airline is always at the forefront of all that we do.
Safety is one of our corporate values, setting out our purpose and ensuring that safety is part of all our practices.
“We will protect our customers, staff and assets through a ceaseless commitment to international and all other appropriate safety standards and the adoption of practices which emphasise safety as a paramount personal responsibility.”
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum,
Chairman and Chief Executive Emirates Airline & Group
We have a healthy organisational safety culture, where employees are encouraged to proactively play their part in the continuous improvement of the airline’s safety.
Our Safety Management System (SMS) is guided by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards and recommendations practices. It fully meets the regulatory requirements of the General Civil Aviation Association (GCAA).
Our SMS has four components and 12 elements – the components are: Safety Policy and Objectives, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance and Safety Promotion. Our commitment to safety is articulated in our Safety policy(Opens in a new window).
Our extensive safety communication and training programme makes sure that every employee understands their responsibilities and the role they play in the overall safety of the airline.
At the heart of our operation is a rigorous safety risk management mind-set and focus on safe behaviour and safety practices. We apply thorough risk and change management principles to all aspects of our operation, including Flight Operations, Cargo, Engineering, Ground Operations and Cabin Safety.
We have one of the youngest fleets in the air and we strive constantly for continuous improvement in safety. Our proactive initiatives include:
Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) is an important aspect of our SMS. Our WHS strategy aims to keep our employees healthy, to prevent injury, and to provide a safe and healthy workplace.
Employees are encouraged to work safely, wear the correct Personal Protective Equipment and ensure work instructions and standard operating procedures are followed. All employees have a personal responsibility to prevent unsafe acts and situations.
Preparing for the unthinkable is challenging, but it is an important part of our culture at Emirates.
We have a programme called emcare and immediate response teams on hand. We offer humanitarian support to our passengers effected by any form of crisis including natural disasters, sickness, accidents or other trauma.
We believe it’s better to be prepared for something that doesn’t happen, than be unprepared for something that does. We carry out exercises regularly to make sure that we are always ready to support the wellbeing of our passengers and colleagues.
