OUR KEY ACHIEVEMENTS

2017 highlights

While 2016–2017 was a testing year, our strong business foundation has enabled us to continue making progress toward our environmental goals. Highlights from this financial reporting year (April 1, 2016–March 31, 2017) include:

  • Emirates Engineering is now saving 11 million liters of water a year by introducing a new aircraft washing procedure.
  • The group also saved a substantial 237 megawatt-hours of electricity each month through energy efficiency measures, including installing light-emitting-diode lighting in hangars.
  • Now, 28 recycled plastic bottles make up every warm fleece blanket we provide in Economy Class on long-haul flights.
  • Idle reverse thrust on landing has saved 4,941 tons of fuel (and 15,564 tons of CO2).
  • And "engine out taxi in" (turning off one engine while taxiing in) has saved 1,170 tons of fuel (3,686 tons of CO2).
