UK Air Passenger Duty

If I’m charged UK Air Passenger Duty (APD), can I request a refund?

UK Air Passenger Duty (APD) is an additional charge on flights with more than 20 seats that depart from a UK or Isle of Man airport. It’s paid per person and the amount depends on the length of the journey.

From 1 March 2016, 12 to 15 year olds won’t have to pay APD when they travel in Economy Class (children under 12 are already exempt from paying APD). We’re updating our booking systems to reflect this change, but in the meantime APD will still be applied. So if you book an Economy Class flight now for travel on or after 1 March 2016 from any of our six UK gateways, we’ll refund the APD for all eligible young travellers. You can also get a refund if you’ve already booked your flight.

To claim your refund go to Manage a booking on emirates.com and add passport information or call one of our Contact Centres and ask them to add in your passport information for all travellers under 16 years of age*.

We’ll refund the APD to your original form of payment, and we aim to process this within 28 days. It may take extra time for your bank to process the refund and for the amount to show on your statement.

*If you book your ticket through a travel agent, you’ll need to contact them to arrange your refund.
