Emirates’ one-off A380 service to Tehran marks start of 4th daily service to Iranian capital

Emirates celebrates the landing of its A380 in Tehran. Tehran has become the latest airport on the Emirates network to welcome the Airbus A380.

DUBAI, UAE,1st October 2014: Emirates, a global connector of people and places celebrates the launch of its fourth daily nonstop passenger service to Imam Khomeini International Airport, Tehran with the landing of a one-off Airbus A380 service.

On-board the A380 flight was a VIP delegation from Iran and Dubai, senior executives from Emirates led by Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations Centre, as well as international media. The flight carried crew from 20 different countries demonstrating just how Emirates connects people across the globe.

“Iran is one of the most active aviation markets in the world and an integral part of Emirates operations. Air links are important enablers of trade and tourism and with our fourth daily service, Emirates is helping to contribute to the economy and meet the increased demand on this busy route – both passenger and cargo,” said Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Divisional Senior Vice President for Commercial Operations Centre.

Emirates began flights to the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1990 when Emirates Airline was only five years old. Since then over 6.6 million passengers have travelled between the two countries. Today, Teheran has become the latest airport on the Emirates network to welcome the Airbus A380.

The Emirates A380 flight on today’s Teheran to Dubai route offers 14 Private Suites in First Class, 76 full-flat bed seats in Business Class and 429 seats in Economy Class.  It was operated as EK979 and departed Dubai at 1415hrs, arriving at 1600hrs. The return flight EK980 departed Imam Khomeini International Airport at 1905hrs arriving in Dubai at 2150hrs.

Emirates has redefined travel with its A380. Travellers in all classes can use the on-board Wi-Fi, and be entertained by the award-winning ice system with over 1,800 channels of inflight entertainment on demand.  First and Business Class passengers have access to the on-board lounge, which has become a popular gathering place for passengers at 40,000 feet. The First Class suites available on our A380 give discerning travellers the time and space to relax with a host of thoughtful luxury touches.

Emirates currently operates its 53 A380s to 30 destinations across its ever expanding global network and the airline has a further 87 A380s on order.
