Flights to Multan

Situated in the centre of Punjab, Multan is truly in the heart of Pakistan – both culturally and geographically. As one of the oldest cities in the world it’s of great historical and spiritual importance, with a legacy dating back more than 6,000 years.

It’s believed to have been the capital of the Trigarta Kingdom during the Mahabharata War. And, in more recent times, Multan has grown significantly as a major political and economic hub thanks to its trade links. As a result it’s now Pakistan’s fifth largest city by population.

Affectionately called the City of Saints or the City of Sufis, Multan is known for its incredibly rich religious history. Its streets are lined with ancient shrines and tombs, dedicated to fabled warriors and religious figures, which has earned it a reputation as a focal point of the Sufi faith, a dimension of Islam. Among the most visited spots are the mausoleums of Sufi saints which attract worshippers from all over the world.

A melting pot of tradition and culture, Multan intersects all four of Pakistan’s major provinces. Nowhere is this better brought to life than in the bustling bazaars, where the walkways are tuneful with a variety of regional languages and dialects. There are plenty of marketplace treasures to be found, including mangoes and pomegranates, grown locally thanks to Multan’s mild winters and lush green farmland.

With its blend of delicious local cuisine, unique Multani dress, and some of the region’s finest ancient architecture, Multan is a welcome shock to the senses. The city experiences hot, dry summers, met with thoroughly gentle winters; spring and late summer are considered the best seasons for travellers looking to spend maximum time outdoors.

For those looking to explore the region, Multan is extremely accessible thanks to its well-developed road, rail and air infrastructure, providing direct links to major cities such as Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore. For sports enthusiasts, the Multan Cricket Stadium has hosted test and one day international cricket matches for up to 30,000 spectators.
