Our global presence

Emirates and Mainland China

15 YEARS OF CONNECTIVITY, TRADE AND GROWTH

Emirates and China

Emirates launched direct passenger flights to mainland China in 2004, with a daily service to Shanghai. We have witnessed the growth of China into one of the world’s most important aviation markets, and have increased the frequency and capacity of our China services in a progressive manner to develop our network and meet growing passenger and cargo demand. Emirates now serves 35 flights per week to three destinations - twice daily to Beijing and Shanghai, and daily to Guangzhou. Emirates also operates cargo services with daily operations to Shanghai and three times weekly to Guangzhou.

In 2018/19 we carried more than 1.6 million passengers and 117,000 tonnes of cargo to and from China. Since the launch of services in 2004, Emirates has carried more than 14.3 million passengers in total. The strength of Emirates’ operations is further highlighted by the high seat factors on all of our routes to China, averaging 83% over the past 5 years.
