Unfortunately, multiple Emirates Skywards accounts cannot be merged. Each member is allowed only one active account. If you happen to have more than one, the primary account will be retained, and the others will be closed.
If you need help identifying which account to keep, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
- Skywards Miles are the reward currency you earn as an Emirates Skywards member. You can earn Skywards Miles when you fly with Emirates and flydubai, as well as through our global partner network, including airlines, banks, car providers, hotels, and a range of lifestyle brands.
Your Skywards Miles are valid for three years from the date of earning. Within the calendar year that Skywards Miles are due to expire, they will be removed from your account at the end of the month in which you were born.
For example, if you earned Skywards Miles in June 2019 and your birthday is in August, these Skywards Miles will expire on 31st August 2022.
If you have any Skywards Miles in your account that are due to expire in the next 12 months, you can set automated messages from your My Account page to remind you when Skywards Miles are due to expire.
If you have any Skywards Miles in your account that are due to expire in the next 3 months, you can pay to extend their validity for another 12 months beyond the date of the original expiry. Or if you have Skywards Miles that have expired within the last 6 months, you can also pay to reinstate their validity. Please visit this page for complete details.
If you’re not travelling any time soon, you can spend your Skywards Miles on rewards with our hotel, retail and lifestyle partners. Visit this page to see our full list of partners where you can make the most of your Skywards Miles.
If you are planning to travel in the future, you can also book your flights with Emirates, flydubai and our partner airlines up to 11 months ahead.
You also have the option to extend the validity of your Skywards Miles that are about to expire in the next 3 months or reinstate Skywards Miles that have expired in the last 6 months. Click here for more information.

While Skywards Miles can be used to buy rewards, Tier Miles are collected to help you move up membership tiers and are earned mainly when you fly with Emirates and flydubai or on a codeshare flight that carries an Emirates flight code (EK).
The number of Tier Miles that you earn during a qualification period determines the membership tier you belong to: Blue, Silver, Gold or Platinum.

Your tier is updated automatically when you collect enough Tier Miles. You can view your tier status and check how many Tier Miles are required to move up a tier on the Skywards page of the app and the ‘My Overview’ page on the website, as long as you are logged in.

Tier Miles are calculated at the same rate as Skywards Miles; taking into account the fare you have paid, the route, and the class of travel. Tier Miles can be earned mainly on Emirates flights, flydubai flights, and codeshare flights marketed by Emirates but operated by another airline.
Use our Miles Calculator to see how much you will earn on your next flight.

Tier Miles are valid for up to 13 months from the date you start earning, which is usually your first flight as an Emirates Skywards member either on Emirates, flydubai or on a codeshare flight marketed by Emirates but operated by another airline. If you receive Tier Miles from a backdated claim, they will be valid from the date of the flight.

No, Tier Miles cannot be transferred or bought. They are only earned when you fly with Emirates, flydubai, or on codeshare flights marketed by Emirates but operated by another airline.
If you want to retain your tier status or move up a tier, consider upselling your fare brand or upgrading your cabin class on your next flight to earn more Tier Miles. You may also want to subscribe to the Skywards+ Premium package, which gives you 20% more Tier Miles during your subscription period.
Our ‘My Trips’ tool displays only your upcoming trips with Emirates. If you have a flydubai booking, you’ll need to log in at flydubai.com to view it.
Reward bookings on Emirates (flights purchased using Skywards Miles) will also appear in My Trips, and you can view them by going to the ‘Manage your booking’ page and logging in with your last name and booking reference.
Emirates flights may not show up in My Trips if:
- The first name or last name entered at the time of the booking does not match the name in your Emirates Skywards account; for example, ‘Will’ instead of ‘William’.
- Your Emirates Skywards membership number is not associated with the booking. To update this, please add your Emirates Skywards membership number in Manage your booking.
If you feel that none of the above applies to your future bookings, please call Emirates Contact Centre for assistance.
- Your origin is the airport where you start each leg of your journey, and your destination is the airport where you end each leg of your journey. So, if you’re flying a return trip from London to Auckland, your outbound flight has an origin of London and a destination of Auckland; on your return flight, the origin is Auckland and the destination is London. Stopovers are not counted as a destination.

Claiming Miles
Yes, new members can claim Miles for Emirates, flydubai, and Qantas flights flown up to two months prior to registering with Emirates Skywards.
However, any other transaction, like flights with our other partner airlines or purchases of partner services and products, made before you registered won’t be eligible for earning or accruing Miles.
- If you’re missing Miles for flydubai flights, please log in and submit an online claim on flydubai.com.
- If you’re missing Miles for an Emirates flight, please log in and submit an online claim. Miles can be claimed only for qualifying flights taken within six months from the travel date. We’ll credit the Miles into your account straight away, as long as the name on the ticket matches the name in your Emirates Skywards profile exactly.
You can submit a claim if your Miles haven’t been credited to your account within three weeks of the partner transaction date. To claim missing Miles, the name used for the partner booking must match the name in your Emirates Skywards profile exactly. Depending on the partner, follow one of these steps to claim your Miles:
- Airlines: contact us via Live Chat* and provide the required information such as booking name, flight date, flight code, class of travel, origin, destination and ticket number.

We’ll credit the Miles into your account straight away, as long as the name on the ticket matches the name in your Emirates Skywards profile exactly. To credit Miles into your My Family account, you have to quote your individual membership number. Based on the contribution percentage you have chosen, the Miles will be credited back to your My Family account.
Please note that My Family members cannot make backdated claims for flights they have taken before joining My Family.
- To claim missing Miles on a Skysurfers account, the nominated parent or guardian can simply visit this page and follow the steps based on whether the claim is for Emirates flights, flydubai flights, or any of our other partners.
Miles might be missing from your statement for several reasons. The most common are:
- The name on the reservation doesn’t exactly match the name registered on your Emirates Skywards profile.
- The transaction is still being processed (please allow 48 hours for a flight booked with Emirates or flydubai, or up to three weeks for a transaction with an Emirates Skywards partner).
- Your Emirates Skywards membership number was not quoted, or was misquoted, at the time of booking or at check-in.
- You have not travelled on the inbound or outbound part of your journey yet
Earning Miles with Emirates and flydubai
Base Miles are the standard Skywards Miles earned on any Emirates ticket, without any kind of Bonus Miles*.
The number of Miles you earn depends on the fare type of your ticket. The baseline used to calculate standard Skywards Miles is Economy Flex Plus for Emirates flights and Economy Flex for flydubai flights. This is why other fare types earn more or fewer Miles.
You can use our Miles Calculator to check the total Miles you’ll earn on an Emirates ticket. Total Miles are made up of base Miles for your origin and destination, plus the various cabin class and tier bonuses on offer.
*Bonus Miles are additional Skywards Miles that members earn when they travel in premium cabins (Business Class and First Class) and/or if they are Silver, Gold, or Platinum members.
The fare is the price paid for your ticket. Each cabin have different fare types.
On Emirates flights:
- Economy and Business Class: Special, Saver, Flex or Flex Plus
- Premium Economy: Flex Plus
- First Class: Flex or Flex Plus
On flydubai flights:
- Economy Class: Lite, Value, Flex
- Business Class: Business
The fare type you choose will influence the number of Miles you will earn.
- Yes, you do. You’ll earn both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles on all fare types in every cabin. The number of Miles you earn depends on your fare type. To see how many Miles you can earn, check out our Miles Calculator.
- Yes, you do. You’ll earn both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles on all fare types in every cabin. The number of Miles you earn depends on your fare type. To see how many Miles you can earn, check out our Miles Calculator.
- We recognise that different customers can pay different fares while travelling in the same cabin, so when we calculate the Miles you earn, we take into account the type of fare as well as the distance flown. Customers choose different fare types based on their travel needs. Along with the distance flown, the fare type helps determine how many Miles you earn - so we can recognise the added cost of the fare you've selected for your journey.
Our Special and Saver fares are our most affordable fares, but Flex and Flex Plus fares offer extra benefits:
- You’ll earn more Skywards and Tier Miles on a Flex or Flex Plus fare, so you can reach your next reward or the next tier faster.
- You also have more flexibility to change or cancel your ticket
- You need fewer Skywards Miles to upgrade to a higher cabin class.
If you’re travelling in Economy Class on a Flex or Flex Plus fare, you won’t have to pay for Seat Selection.
- The fare type will be clearly displayed when you search for flights on emirates.com or flydubai.com. It will show the price, fare conditions and the Miles that you will earn. If you are logged in as an Emirates Skywards member, you can even view flight-specific bonuses.
No, fare types are not restricted by the class you travel in. When you are searching for or booking a flight, you will see which types of fares are available.
Read this FAQ to know more about what fare types are available in each cabin class.
When flying Emirates or flydubai, Silver members receive 30% bonus Skywards Miles, Gold members receive 75% bonus Skywards Miles and Platinum members receive 100% bonus.
On Emirates flights, the bonus is calculated based on the Miles earned at the Economy Flex Plus level for that journey.
On flydubai flights, the bonus is calculated based on the fare brand purchased for the journey.
- When travelling in either Emirates Business Class, Emirates First Class, or flydubai Business Class, you will earn additional bonus Skywards and Tier Miles. To check the number of Miles you will earn when travelling in premium cabins, visit our Miles Calculator.
- If your ticket is split between different fare types, you will earn a different number of Miles for each part of your journey that is booked on a different fare.
- No, Skywards Members will earn Miles as per the original ticketed class of travel. No additional Miles will be awarded to the member in case of on board upgrades paid for with cash.
- No, Classic Reward tickets are not eligible to accrue Skywards Miles and Tier Miles because these are redemption flights - you’re using Miles instead of earning them this time.
- No, you won’t earn Skywards Miles and Tier Miles for your upgraded cabin if you’ve used your Miles to purchase an upgrade. If your original booking was paid in cash, your Miles will be earned based on the original cabin you booked, not the upgraded one.
You’ll earn Skywards Miles and Tier Miles on the part of your ticket that you pay for in cash, excluding carrier imposed charges, taxes and fees. The rate will depend on the type of ticket you have bought. However, please note that you will not earn additional Miles based on the higher cabin attained through Promotional Upgrades paid with Cash+Miles – the Miles you’ll earn will be based on the fare and cabin class originally booked.
Earning on other FFP/loyalty programmes is not available. You will also not earn Skywards Miles or Tier Miles on any flight-related product or service you paid for using Cash+Miles.
- Miles are credited to your account after you’ve physically flown from your origin airport to your destination airport. They are credited in two stages, firstly when you have finished the outbound part of your trip and again when you have completed the inbound voyage. So, if you fly from London to Sydney return, you are credited Miles once you arrive in Sydney and again when you return to London.
Skywards Miles and Tier Miles are earned by the person who travels, not the person who books or pays for the ticket. This means that even if you enter your own membership number when booking for someone else, the Miles can’t be credited to your account. Miles are linked to the traveller’s name, and the name on the ticket must match the name on the Skywards account. If you book a ticket for someone else and add their Skywards membership number, they’ll earn the Miles for the trip – as long as their name in their passport or ticket matches that on their Skywards account.
If you’d like to share Skywards Miles with family or friends, you can:
- Transfer Miles to another Skywards member, or
- Join My Family, where eligible family members can pool Miles into one account

- Stopovers have no effect on the amount of Miles earned and are not counted as a destination. So, if you stopover in Dubai on your way to Sydney from London, you would still only receive your Miles credit once you arrive in Sydney.
- If you do not complete all your ticketed flights (for instance if part of your ticket is refunded or voided), we will credit Miles for any flights you have flown as soon as you submit the remainder of your ticket for cancellation or refund. Emirates Contact Centre can assist you with this.
- No. You must decide which programme you wish to earn Miles on at the time of reservation or check-in for Qualifying Flights and at the time of paying for other qualifying goods or services. No changes can be made to the membership number once a member has checked in for the first flight of an itinerary.
Earning Miles with our Partners
You can collect Skywards Miles just by making purchases with your credit card. If you have an Emirates Skywards co‑branded credit card with HSBC, Emirates Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Dubai Islamic Bank, ICICI Bank, and the Emirates Skywards Mastercard® with Barclays, we will automatically credit your Emirates Skywards account with any Skywards Miles you have earned each month.

When you fly with flydubai, you’ll earn both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles. The number of Miles you earn depends on the distance flown, your fare brand, and your cabin class. You also earn bonus Miles depending on your membership tier status.
When you fly with our other airline partners, you’ll only earn Skywards Miles and not Tier Miles. The number of Skywards Miles you earn is based on distance flown and that airline’s specific earning percentage rate. To check the earning rate for a particular airline, go to our Partners page, select the airline you want to check, click ‘Learn More’, then scroll down to ‘Important Information’ and you will see the earn table with the earning rates.

Giving you a digital version of the card provides a more convenient and seamless way for you to access your membership details. Your first tier review takes place 12 months after you move into a new tier.
During the review period of 12 months, you should have met the below for your Tier.
Silver Tier: 25,000 Tier Miles
Gold Tier: 50,000 Tier Miles
Platinum Tier: 150,000 Tier Miles and at least one qualifying flight in First Class or Business Class
If you’ve met the Tier Miles required for your current tier, you’ll retain your status. If you fall short, you’ll be downgraded.
Each time your Tier is reviewed and retained, the next review will be automatically scheduled 12 months from the date you qualified.
We assess if you’re ready to move up a tier every time you earn Tier Miles, so you may be assessed multiple times a year. To move up to the next tier, you need to earn enough Tier Miles in the last 12 months, which is your assessment period.
- To reach Silver membership, you need to have 25,000 Tier Miles.
- To reach Gold membership, you need to have 50,000 Tier Miles.
- To reach Platinum membership, you need to have 150,000 Tier Miles and at least one qualifying flight in First Class or Business Class.
Please check your My Overview page for information about your tier membership and key review dates. You don’t need to apply to move up a tier, we will automatically move you to the next tier when you’ve earned enough Tier Miles.
To reach the next tier faster, fly with Emirates and flydubai - the more you fly, the more Tier Miles you earn.
The number of Tier Miles you earn depends on the fare type within your chosen cabin class. Higher fare types, such as Flex and Flex Plus, generally earn more Miles and help you reach your next tier faster. To know more about what fare types are available in each cabin class, you can visit this page.
Additionally, if you subscribe to Skywards+ Premium package, you earn 20% more Tier Miles during your Skywards+ subscription period. Visit the Skywards+ page to know more.
You enjoy your membership privileges for 12 months.
For example, if you achieve Silver membership on 15 October 2026, your tier review date will be 31 October 2027. This means you can use your Silver Tier benefits until end of October 2027.
Tier reviews always take place at the end of every month.
If and when you downgrade from Platinum to Gold, any unredeemed Skywards Miles that were extended on account of you being a Platinum member, will automatically expire.
Whenever you redeem Miles for a reward, the Miles deducted from your account will always be the ones that have been in your account the longest. This helps to minimise any chance of losing your Miles.
- No. Tier status can only be earned by accumulating Tier Miles.
- You won’t earn additional Tier Miles for being a Silver, Gold or Platinum member. However, you can earn extra Tier Miles by travelling Business Class or First Class or choosing a Flex or Flex Plus fare. Additionally, if you subscribe to Skywards+ Premium package, you earn 20% more Tier Miles during your Skywards+ subscription period. Visit the Skywards+ page to know more.
Silver, Gold and Platinum members are eligible for two personalised luggage tags per tier cycle. Skywards Skysurfers members are not eligible for luggage tags.
Silver, Gold and Platinum members can get their luggage tags printed at the Business Class lounges at Dubai Airport Terminal 3. Platinum members will continue to receive their packs along with their personalised luggage tags.
If you’re an Emirates Skywards Silver or Gold member, you can collect your tags from the Skywards Team at Dubai Airport (Business class lounges in all concourses and Skywards Centre Duty free level concourse B). If you’re a Platinum member, you will continue to receive your luggage tags in a Skywards pack couriered to you.
You can request your tags at any point during your tier cycle.
Effective 30 November 2018, any Skywards Miles belonging to a Platinum member will not expire for as long he/she retains membership of the Platinum tier. If you are a Platinum member, you will see an adjusted expiry date whenever you have any Skywards Miles that were originally due to expire during your current Platinum tier cycle. This adjusted date will show as three (3) months after your next Platinum tier review date.
For example: if a Platinum member (with next tier review date of 31 December 2026) has Skywards Miles due to originally expire on 31 July 2026 as per standard expiry, this member will see an adjusted expiry date of 31 March 2027 (calculated as 3 months after the upcoming tier review date).
Similarly, when a Platinum member retains their Platinum membership for another year, any unused Skywards Miles that were extended in their last Platinum cycle will again be extended to three (3) months after their next Platinum tier review date. The only time Skywards Miles that were extended on account of the member being Platinum will expire is if and when a member downgrades to Gold and has yet to redeem such Miles. You can refer to the Emirates Skywards Programme Rules for complete details.
There are several ways in which your travelling companions might benefit from your membership when they travel with you.
An Emirates Skywards member, you can request for instant upgrade rewards with Skywards Miles at the check-in desk or on board the aircraft for companions who are travelling with them on the same flight.
Based on your tier status, you can invite guests who are traveling on the same flight as you to the lounge by using your complimentary guest access entitlement or purchase additional lounge access.
Travelling companions of Platinum members may also benefit from priority baggage delivery, subject to availability.
- Eligible Emirates Skywards members may nominate another member for a Gold membership. This could be a spouse, family member, friend or business colleague. The nominating member must choose their Gold Partner within their 12 month tier cycle. Members wishing to nominate a Gold Partner can enter the last name and membership number of their nominee in the form on the Membership benefits page of their account.
- The Gold Partner membership will be linked to the nominating member for as long as the nominating member retains his or her Platinum tier status. However, if the nominating member is downgraded, the Gold Partner will keep their Gold status until their next tier review date, at which point they will retain Gold status only if they have achieved 50,000 Tier Miles.
- You can change your nominee when you requalify for Platinum, but only after your current Gold Partner has completed their own tier cycle. Just make sure the auto-renew check box is unticked in the Gold Partner section of your Benefits page. We recommend you nominate someone who might not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the benefits of Gold based on their own travel. If your Gold Partner achieves Platinum status in his/her own right, you can nominate a new Gold Partner.
- You can choose to automatically renew your Gold Partner anytime within their tier cycle by ticking the auto-renew check box in the Gold Partner section of your Benefits page. If you do not wish to renew your Gold Partner, simply leave the auto-renew check box unticked. Once your current Gold Partner’s tier cycle is completed you will be able to nominate a new Gold Partner.
If you are a Gold or Platinum member and you want to travel on a sold-out Emirates flight, we will guarantee you an Economy Class seat on your chosen flight*.
For our Platinum members, we will also do our best to confirm a Business Class seat. However, during major holidays and special events this may not be possible on some flights.
To use your reserved booking priority benefit, just call our Contact Centre at least 48 hours before the flight. Our agents will create a new Flex Plus booking or review your ticket to make sure it is an eligible commercial Flex Plus fare. If it’s not, they can upgrade your ticket over the phone.
*Some commercial fares may not be eligible for the reserved booking priority benefit but can be upgraded for an additional charge. Please check with our Contact Centre. Occasionally, due to flight capacity restrictions and government regulations in certain countries, we might be unable to fulfil your request.
- You are not entitled to free upgrades for being a Skywards member. However, if you are a Skywards member, you can redeem rewards including upgrades on Emirates flights, along with other rewards such as a Classic Reward and having the option to pay with Cash+Miles.
- Last Seat Flex Plus reward is an exclusive benefit for Platinum members where they can redeem Skywards Miles for a Business Class or Economy Class Flex Plus reward ticket even when the reward is not available, as long as the flight is not sold out in the cabin of choice.
When travelling under weight concept on Emirates and flydubai flights, Emirates Skywards Silver members are entitled to a guaranteed excess baggage allowance of 12 kg above the ticketed limit for a particular cabin class, Gold members are guaranteed 16 kg above the ticketed limit and Platinum members are guaranteed 20 kg above the ticketed limit. However, please note the following:
- The maximum weight per checked in item of luggage is 32 kg on all cross Atlantic flights
- Economy Class baggage to the US cannot weigh more than 23 kg or 50 lb per item.
- Maximum weight limits per bag may vary in accordance with differing international airport regulations.
- Excess baggage privileges do not apply to cabin baggage or on flights in which the baggage allowance is given as 'number of luggage items’, instead of kilogrammes.
When travelling on the piece concept on flights marketed and operated by Emirates, Emirates Skywards Platinum and Gold Members are eligible for 1 additional piece of checked baggage at 23kg per piece in Economy and Premium Economy Class and 32kg per piece in Business and First Class over and above the baggage allowance shown on the ticket. The maximum allowance in any cabin shall not exceed 3 pieces of checked baggage.
If your journey starts in the United States, or in Africa, please make sure you are aware of baggage allowances specific to this route.
Emirates Skywards additional free baggage allowance applies only on flights operated by Emirates and flydubai. This benefit does not apply to codeshare flights operated by other airlines and in the case of itineraries that involve other airline flights.
If you’re travelling in First Class or Business Class, you can choose your seat from the moment you purchase your ticket at no extra charge based on your Tier status.
If you’re an Emirates Skywards Platinum or Gold member, you and everyone in your booking (under the same booking number) will enjoy complimentary advance seat selection. This applies even if you book an Economy Class Special or Saver fare or an Economy Class Classic Saver Reward. Complimentary advance seat selection is applicable only on selected seat types.
If you’re an Emirates Skywards Silver member, it’s free to reserve your seat in advance. However, anyone else in your booking will have to pay the Advance Seat Reservation charge, unless they purchase Economy Flex tickets, which allow complimentary regular seat selection, or Economy Flex Plus tickets, which allow complimentary regular and preferred seat selection in advance.
If you’re an Emirates Skywards Blue member, you will have to pay if you want to choose your seat before online check-in opens, unless you purchase Economy Flex and Flex+ tickets, in which case you can reserve regular seats in advance.
- No, you can choose your seat for free if you wait until online check-in opens, which is 48 hours before your flight.

My Family
- Including the Family Head, there can be up to eight members.
- The Family Head is responsible for creating the My Family account, adding members, removing members, making travel bookings, and all other day-to-day account management. Any member aged 18 or above can register as the Family Head. When adding a Skysurfer to a My Family account, the Family Head must be the registered parent or guardian of that Skysurfer.
A Family Member is listed as part of a My Family account and can choose to contribute 0% or 100% of their Skywards Miles earned from Emirates Flights, flydubai Flights, airline partners, as well as spending with Emirates’ bank, hotel, car rental, retail, and lifestyle partners.
If you choose 100% contribution, you automatically pool the Skywards Miles you earn into the My Family account, allowing those aged 18 or above to redeem Skywards Miles from the account.
- Any Emirates Skywards member aged 18 or above can create a My Family account and serve as the Family Head. When adding a Skysurfers to a My Family account, the Family Head must be the registered parent or guardian of that Skysurfer.
- You can invite any members of your immediate family to join. If they’re not already Emirates Skywards members, they’ll just need to register first before you can add them. Immediate family members include the following: Husband, Wife, Domestic Partner, Son, Stepson, Daughter, Stepdaughter, Mother, Mother-in-law, Stepmother, Father, Father-in-law, Stepfather, Brother, Sister, Granddaughter, Grandson and Domestic Helper.
Once you’ve created your My Family account, you’ll see the option to invite up to seven members. If you’re adding members aged 18 or over, simply enter their details and we’ll send them an invitation by email.
If you’re adding a child, they can be added without an invitation as long as they’re already Skysurfers and the Family Head is their registered parent or guardian.
Infants can also be added to make redemptions easier, but they can’t earn or contribute Skywards Miles to My Family.
An invitation email will only expire 14 days after a Family Head sends it (validity of email will be mentioned on the email sent to the member).
Family Head may withdraw the invitation prior to it being accepted.
When an invitation email is sent, it will direct the individual to the Emirates Skywards login/Join now page. The individual will then need to login to their account or join the Emirates Skywards Programme.
A member needs a unique email address to join Emirates Skywards.
- When you’re added to My Family, you’ll be asked to choose a Skywards Miles contribution percentage of 0% or 100%. You can change this at any time.
- Your current Skywards Miles balance and Tier Miles balance will remain as before. For any future Skywards Miles you earn on Emirates Flights, you can choose to contribute either none or all of your Skywards Miles to your My Family account. The contribution percentage can be changed at any time.
- Yes, you can set your Skywards Miles percentage contribution to 100% so that all the Skywards Miles you earn on future Emirates flights or with our partners go into your My Family account. Any Tier Miles you earn on the flight will still be credited to your individual Emirates Skywards account.
Yes, you can change the contribution percentage to either 0% or 100%, or stop your contributions at any time by selecting the ‘Edit’ button which appears next to your name on the My Family dashboard. If you set the contribution percentage to zero, all future Skywards Miles will be credited into your individual Emirates Skywards account.
Please note that if you change your contribution percentage in the middle of your flight/s, the change will only take effect after your current set of flights are complete. For example, if you are currently between flights i.e. Bangkok – Dubai – London, the new percentage contribution will take effect after you arrive in your final destination, London.
Yes, the contribution includes all Skywards Miles earned including those earned as a bonus or through a promotion. The number of Skywards Miles contributed, will always be rounded up to the next whole one.
Once Skywards Miles have been contributed into My Family, they can’t be transferred back to the individual member.
- No, you cannot contribute Tier Miles to My Family. Tier Miles will continue to be credited only to your individual Emirates Skywards or Skysurfers account.
Skywards Miles can be redeemed from the My Family account for:
- Classic Reward flights
- Flights where Cash+Miles is offered*
- Instant Upgrades at check-in
- Selected retail and lifestyle partners* (offered by Emirates and our partners)
- Donations to support Emirates Airline Foundation initiatives
- Selected Skywards Exclusives events (subject to the Skywards Exclusives terms and conditions set out in these Programme Rules in respect of Skywards Exclusives).

- In the event of the death of a Family Head Emirates Skywards may, in its sole discretion, reinstate the deceased Member’s available Skywards Miles in the ‘My Family’ account to the credit of his/her legal beneficiaries provided that his/her ‘My Family’ account holds a minimum balance of 2,000 Skywards Miles at the time of receipt by Emirates Skywards of any application for such Skywards Miles.
- Only Family Heads can remove a member from a My Family. If you are a Family Head, you can log into your account and choose to remove a member. If the member is over 18, we’ll send them an email to let them know about the change. If you remove a child, we’ll send an email to their registered parent or guardian. Once they’ve been removed, they can no longer contribute Skywards Miles or be included in any redemption.
- If you are a Family Member, then the Skywards Miles will remain in the My Family account and can be used by the Family Head and the remaining Family Members. However, if you are a Family Head, the My Family account will be closed and all the remaining Miles in the account will be forfeited.
- The Skywards Miles you contributed to My Family would not be transferred back to your individual account.
- If you are receiving an error message when accepting an invitation to join a My Family account, please make sure you are logged into your own Emirates Skywards account or that the invitation link has not expired.
- If you send an invitation to an incorrect email address, you can withdraw the invite. Alternatively, the invite will expire after 14 days.
- Yes, as long as their parent or guardian is the Family Head. If the child is aged between 2 and 17, they’ll also need to register as part of our Skywards Skysurfers programme if they’re not already a member so they can earn Skywards Miles and contribute to My Family.
- Yes, infants can also be added for redemption purposes only, but they can’t earn or contribute Skywards Miles to My Family. Any number of infants can be added as they don’t count towards the total number of Family Members.
- Yes, you can contribute up to 100% of the Skywards Miles you earn on flights with Emirates, flydubai and other airline partners, as well as the Skywards Miles you earn with our bank, hotel, car rental, retail and lifestyle partners. Only the Skywards Miles you’ve earned with financial conversion partners can’t be pooled into your My Family account.
- The Family Head and Family members can only join and be part of one account at any one time. If the Family Head or Family member wants to join a new account, they must first be removed from the current account. However, if the Family Head is removed, the My Family account will be closed and all the remaining Skywards Miles in the account will be forfeited.
- Yes, Skywards Miles earned on flydubai flights can be pooled into the My Family account.
Similar to the Skywards Miles in your individual account, the Skywards Miles in your My Family account will be valid for three years from the date of travel.
The expiry date is linked to the birth month of the individual member who contributed the Skywards Miles. For example, if you earned the Skywards Miles you contributed in May 2023 and your birthday is in August, these Skywards Miles will expire on 31 August 2026.
You can regularly check the My Family dashboard to see if you have Miles expiring soon.
Your first name, last name and Skywards Miles contribution percentage will be visible to all other members in your My Family account. Details related to transactions i.e. transaction type, passenger name (title, first name and last name for the member who has flown) and the number of Skywards Miles contributed to the account and used for a redemption booking will also be shared.
In addition, the Family Head will be able to see details related to redemption flight tickets, including cabin class and fare brand.
- No, you can’t use the Skywards Miles in your My Family account on Discounted Cabin Upgrades offered as part of your Exclusive Platinum Privileges.
Yes, you may use Cash+Miles for Promotional Upgrades using Miles from your My Family account, provided you are the Family Head. Only the Family Head may use My Family Miles for Promotional Upgrades.
If there are other passengers in the booking, they must also be members of the same My Family account for the Family Head to use Miles from that account toward the Promotional Upgrade.
Skysurfers
- It’s our club for young frequent flyers aged between 2 and 17. Members earn Miles with Emirates, flydubai and our partners in the same ways and at the same rate as the Emirates Skywards programme. Skysurfers can redeem their Skywards Miles for reward flights or a variety of exciting rewards, with the approval of their registered parent or guardian. For more details, please visit the Skywards Skysurfers page.
The benefits are similar to the Emirates Skywards programme. A Skysurfers can achieve Silver or Gold status, and enjoy the extra benefits of that tier, in exactly the same way as an Emirates Skywards member. However, Skysurfers are not eligible for Platinum membership.
Skywards Skysurfers Silver members:
- Eligibility – Emirates Business Class Lounge access only in Dubai for self ONLY if accompanied by an adult (over 18) who is eligible to access the lounge in their own right. NO guest access allowed.
Skywards Skysurfers Gold members:
- Eligibility – Emirates Business Class Lounge access in Dubai and across the network for self + one guest who must be an adult (over 18) OR who is eligible to access the lounge in their own right.
Enrolling young flyers as Skywards Skysurfers is easy:
- Parents or guardians log in to their Emirates Skywards account on the Emirates website.
- Go to the Skysurfers page or MyFamily page and add their child’s details to enrol them as a Skywards Skysurfer.
Once enrolled, the child’s account will remain linked to the parent or guardian’s personal account until they turn 18. During this period, only one registered parent or guardian can manage the Skysurfer’s account.
- Skysurfers also start from Blue and can move up to Silver and Gold tiers in exactly the same way as Emirates Skywards members. However, there is no equivalent Platinum tier for Skysurfers.
- Yes, however, this online functionality is only available to the registered parent/guardian who is an Emirates Skywards member and have their child’s account linked to their account. Once you are logged in to your account on emirates.com, you can view a drop down list that allows you to select from account numbers before making the reward booking.
- If you already have a My Family account, you can simply add your child as a Family Member. You have to be the Family Head in the My Family account, your child has to already be a Skywards Skysurfers member and you are the registered parent/guardian managing their account for you to add them.
- Skywards Skysurfers can spend their Skywards Miles on Emirates flights and with selected airline partners. If you’ve linked the Skysurfers member’s account to yours and you are the registered parent/guardian managing the account, you can choose which account to spend Skywards Miles from. You can also chat with us or call your local Emirates Contact Centre if you need help with booking your flight. First Class Classic Rewards and Reward Upgrades from Business to First Class are only available for passengers aged 9 years old and above.
- Effective from 1 April 2024, any Skywards Miles held in a Skysurfers’s account shall not expire for as long as they are a Skysurfers. Once a Skysurfers turns 18 and becomes a Skywards Member, Skywards Miles from their Skysurfers account shall expire on the last day of the month in which they turn 21 years old. You can refer to Skywards Skysurfers section Clause 3.5 of the Emirates Skywards Programme Rules for full details.
- Skysurfers cannot Buy, Gift, Transfer, Reinstate or Extend expired Skywards Miles in their own right. They are also not eligible to receive Miles via the Gift or Transfer of Skywards Miles option.
- Once Skysurfers turns 18 years old they will be given the opportunity to transition their Account into an individual Account managed solely by the Member, in which case the registered parent/guardian shall no longer have access to the Member’s Account. To complete the transition, the Member will need to call the Emirates Contact Centre or use the live chat function on the Website. The Member will need to provide the relevant Emirates Contact Centre agent with (i) their Account membership number, and (ii) a new unique email address for the Account, to reset their Account password and create their new Account login credentials.
When Skysurfers turn 18, their account converts to a standard Emirates Skywards account.
Their Tier status will be based on the Tier Miles accumulated in their account at the time of transition. During the review period of 12 months, they should have met the below for their Tier:
Silver Tier: 25,000 Tier Miles
Gold Tier: 50,000 Tier Miles
Gold Tier: 150,000 Tier Miles with no qualifying flight in First Class or Business Class
Platinum Tier: 150,000 Tier Miles and at least one qualifying flight in First Class or Business Class

Spending Miles with Emirates and flydubai
Classic Reward is a flight reward paid fully in Skywards Miles on Emirates, flydubai or Emirates Skywards partner airlines. Taxes will always have to be paid in cash.
For a Classic Reward on Emirates, you also have the option to pay the carrier-imposed charges using Skywards Miles.
If you would like to check how many Skywards Miles would you need for a Classic Reward with Emirates, you can check through our Miles Calculator.
- Yes, in addition to the fare paid in Skywards Miles you will be charged carrier-imposed charges and airport and government taxes. These charges would differ based on the Airline (Emirates, Qantas, etc.) being booked on.
Yes, you can. However, when it comes to one-way flights, there are certain restrictions based on your class of travel.
On Emirates flights:
- For Economy, you can book one-way classic reward in Saver and Flex Plus.
- For Business, you can only book one-way classic reward in Flex Plus.
On flydubai flights:
- For Economy, you can book one-way classic reward in Saver and Flex Plus.
- For Business, you can book one-way classic reward in Saver.
You can book these tickets for one-way flights using a classic reward, as long as you fly from one flight zone to another. They’re not valid for travel within a single zone. You can add one stopover on your journey, but your journey must take place in one continuous direction. This one-way ticket will require 50% of the Skywards Miles needed for a return ticket between the same airports.
- Yes, but your journey must move in one continuous direction (no backtracking), and it must take you from one flight zone to another. Traveling within the same zone isn’t permitted for Classic Rewards.
- A one-way Classic Reward ticket is priced at 50% of the Skywards Miles needed for a Flex Plus return ticket between the same two airports. It's a straightforward half-mile calculation based on the return Flex Plus rate.
For flydubai Classic Reward tickets, please contact your local Emirates Contact Centre to make any changes to your booking.
For Emirates Classic Rewards tickets, you can make changes online through the Manage your booking page or by calling your local Emirates Contact Centre.
To enjoy reward flights with your family, you only need to spend 10% of the Skywards Miles value of an adult reward ticket for infants below two years old. Please note that you can only redeem Classic Rewards for infants in Economy Class.
You can enjoy upgrade rewards using Skywards Miles for infants from Economy Class to Premium Economy, Economy Class to Business Class, and Premium Economy to Business Class. Upgrade rewards from Business to First Class are only available for passengers aged 9 years old and above.
- Yes, but please note that Classic Rewards in First Class can only be booked for children aged 9 years old and above.
Yes, you can. Booking an Emirates flight reward for someone else follows the same process as booking for yourself. Simply visit Emirates’ online booking page, toggle the Classic Rewards option, and enter the passenger details accordingly.
For partner flight rewards, please refer to this FAQ (flydubai) and this FAQ (other airline partners) for more information on the booking process.
- No, only Emirates Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members can book First Class Classic Rewards as part of their tier benefits. You can reach Silver by earning Tier Miles on flights with Emirates and flydubai.
You can read the full details in the Classic Reward Section (Section 12) of our Programme Rules.
Saver rewards offer the best value when you travel during lower demand periods or when your travel dates are flexible.
- You can book them on return flights in Business Class and on both one-way and return flights in Economy Class. When booking a return flight reward, you can choose a return date up to 3 months after your outbound travel date. You can add one stopover to your journey.
- You can change your travel dates after the ticket has been issued for USD 25 per change
- A fee of USD 75 will apply if you cancel an unused Saver reward ticket.
Flex Plus rewards offer you even more reward seats during high demand periods and on high demand flights.
- You can book them on both one-way and return flights in every class of travel.
- When booking a return flight reward, you can choose a return date up to 12 months after your outbound travel date.
- You can add two stopovers to your journey.
- You can make changes to your travel dates at any time without charge.
- You can cancel your ticket without charge before travel.
- Yes, you can book a return ticket using a combination of Saver and Flex Plus reward fares, depending on your travel requirements and what allocated seats are available at the time of booking.
- High demand flights mean less available seats. The next time you plan on traveling during peak travel season, it’s best to choose a Flex Plus reward. They cost more Skywards Miles than a Saver reward, but they are available for redemption on a wider range of travel dates.
- Credit card information is required in order to cover the government taxes and airport charges levied on all ticket purchases, including those purchased with Skywards Miles, whether with Emirates or with a partner airline. Airport taxes are compulsory and are not taken by the airline but are usually charged by governments or airport management companies.
- Not always. Classic rewards and upgrade rewards are two different flight rewards with different allocations and availability rules, so one being available doesn’t guarantee the other will be.
Yes, you can visit the Book a flight page to spend your Skywards Miles on Emirates flight rewards. You can also use your Skywards Miles to easily upgrade any existing Emirates flight booking, including those of friends and family, by going to Manage Your Booking, subject to seat availability and applicable upgrade restrictions.
For flydubai reward flights, you can book Classic Rewards via Emirates’ online booking page, or use Cash+Miles on flydubai’s website.
Yes, any member from any tier can use their Skywards Miles to upgrade their Emirates Flight to either Premium Economy, Business Class or First Class*.
There are three easy ways to do this:
- Upgrade an existing booking online from ‘Upcoming Travel’, ‘Manage your Booking’ or at online check-in (up to six hours before departure).
- Call an Emirates Contact Centre (up to six hours before departure).
- Purchase an instant upgrade reward with Skywards Miles at the airport check-in desk (applicable to all membership tiers) or on board the aircraft , subject to seat availability and applicable upgrade restrictions*.
*Emirates Special Fare tickets can't be upgraded. Emirates Business Class Saver and Economy Class Saver tickets can only be upgraded when you check in online or at the airport. First Class Classic Rewards and Reward Upgrades from Business to First Class are only available for passengers aged 9 years old and above whose membership Tier is Silver, Gold, or Platinum at the time of booking. Please review Fare Conditions and applicable restrictions on emirates.com when you make your booking.
Yes, the fare brand you choose makes a big difference when it comes to upgrade eligibility and how many Skywards Miles you’ll need to redeem.
While you can request an upgrade during check-in or even on board (subject to availability), if you’re looking to secure your upgrade in advance, here’s how it works for each fare type:
- Special fares: Not eligible for upgrades.
- Saver fares: Can only be upgraded at online check-in between 48 and 6 hours before departure. These require more Skywards Miles than Flex and Flex+ fare types.
- Flex and Flex+ fares: As long as there are seats available, you can redeem your upgrade online any time up to six hours before departure. Flex requires fewer Skywards Miles than Saver, and Flex+ even fewer.
When you book, you’ll be able to see whether your fare is upgradeable right away or only later - and exactly how many Skywards Miles are needed.
- The Skywards Miles needed for an Emirates Flight upgrade reflect the type of fare that you buy. For example, you need fewer Skywards Miles to upgrade a Flex Plus or Flex fare compared to a Saver fare.
- Yes. During booking, you’ll see which tickets are eligible for upgrades, along with the number of Skywards Miles required.
If you upgrade online by using Manage your booking facility, then all passengers on the booking will automatically be upgraded if you have the available Skywards Miles.
If you do not wish the upgrade to apply to all passengers, please call an Emirates Contact Centre to arrange individual upgrades.
Depending on the zones you are flying through and where you stopover or transit, it may be possible to upgrade just one section of your journey.
If you are travelling on a multiflight journey where partial upgrading is allowed and you would like to use your Skywards Miles for an instant upgrade at the check-in desk, you will also need to make additional requests at any transfer desks or stopover destinations. Please ask for more details when you first check in.
Please note that on some multiflight journeys, you will be upgraded only if seats are available on the entire journey. Please call your nearest Emirates Contact Centre regarding a specific booking.
Some countries levy additional taxes or charges when you travel in a higher class. You will be informed of any additional charges when upgrading your booking.
If you are upgrading online, the additional taxes and charges must be paid for by credit card during the upgrade process. If you do not have a credit card, please get in touch with an Emirates Contact Centre to arrange for payment to be made at your local Emirates office or ticket desk.
All the benefits of the class of travel to which you have upgraded. These include extra baggage allowance and lounge access.
The fare conditions of your original ticket continue to apply at all times. For example, if there are any fees or charges applicable to your original ticket, these will continue to apply even after upgrading with Skywards Miles.
If you upgrade online or at check-in you will receive the excess baggage allowance applicable to the class of your upgrade. Please read the FAQ to see where exceptions to excess baggage allowances may apply due to airport regulations.
If you are travelling on multiple flights during one journey, an upgraded baggage allowance only applies to the part of the journey that has been upgraded. On the other flights during the journey, you will need to either upgrade again or pay the extra fee for the heavier baggage.
Any Emirates Skywards member can spend Skywards Miles on instant upgrades at the check in desk or take advantage of this service on board the aircraft. You can also spend your Skywards Miles on instant upgrades for travelling companions. Simply ask one of our check in staff or crew members to assist you.
Please note that instant upgrades are subject to seat and catering availability as well as applicable upgrade restrictions*. If you upgrade at the check in desk, you will continue to enjoy the benefits of your upgraded class of travel (airport lounge access and additional baggage allowances). However, these benefits are not applicable for instant upgrade on board. Instant upgrades are currently not available to Skysurfers.
*Emirates Special tickets can not be upgraded. Economy Class Saver tickets can only be upgraded at the time of online check in, at the airport or on board. Reward Upgrades from Business to First Class are only available for passengers aged 9 years old and above whose membership Tier is Silver, Gold, or Platinum at the time of booking. Please review Fare Conditions and applicable restrictions on emirates.com when you make your booking.
- You will need to have sufficient Skywards Miles in your account at the check-in desk or on board to get an instant upgrade. As Skywards Miles are only credited to your account after you complete a journey, we cannot factor in the Skywards Miles earned on the journey you are currently taking.
- We are currently not offering Chauffeur Drive Service for upgrade rewards. Your eligibility for this service depends on your original ticket: if you upgraded from Economy or Premium Economy, you will not be eligible for Chauffeur Drive Service. However, if you upgraded from Business Class, you will be eligible for our Business Class Chauffeur Drive Service.
If you have confirmed an upgrade at least 48 hours before you travel then you will be able to choose a meal from the menu in your upgraded cabin class. If you have upgraded less than 48 hours prior to your flight, or if you take advantage of our instant upgrade service at the check-in desk or on board, then we will do our best to accommodate you with a meal from the upgraded cabin class menu.
If meals are not available, we will serve you your meal from the original booking class menu.
Please note that this does not apply to dietary meals; for example, if you have ordered a vegetarian or gluten-free meal in advance, this will be served from the original booking class menu.
Yes, if a Skywards member has an unaccompanied minor, whether traveling with them or alone, they can be upgraded. Simply go to the Manage my Booking page and enter their last name and reference number.
It is also possible to upgrade an unaccompanied minor if a relative, parent or guardian uses Skywards Miles from their own account to buy an instant upgrade at the check-in desk. Please note that upgrade rewards from Business to First Class are only available for passengers aged 9 years old and above.
In order to upgrade a flight online:
- An e-ticket must have been issued for each passenger travelling.
- The flight must be operated and marketed by Emirates, i.e. no codeshare flights.
- Upgrades on emirates.com can be made up to six hours before your flight departs; if there are less than six hours to go, this facility will not be available online.
- The dates and flight codes on your e-ticket must match the dates and flight codes on your booking.
- Make sure you have enough Skywards Miles in your account to cover all passengers on your booking. If you’re booking for multiple people, the system will try to upgrade everyone at once, so if there aren’t enough Skywards Miles for all, please contact your nearest Emirates Contact Centre for assistance.
- Upgrade rewards may not be available at the time.
- Yes, you can top up your Skywards Miles to get an upgrade. To do this, you can call the Emirates Contact Centre or visit the Buy Miles page from here. Since Skywards Miles cannot be purchased at check-in or onboard the flight, you'll need to top up your account in advance to use them for an upgrade reward.
With Cash+Miles you now have the choice and flexibility to access any Emirates and flydubai seat and pay using a combination of cash and Skywards Miles. You can convert* your Skywards Miles into cash and put them towards the cost of your flight and any related product or service you’d like to purchase. So even if you don’t have enough Skywards Miles in your account to book a Classic Reward flight with Skywards Miles alone, you can still use your Skywards Miles to bring down your fare.
*The conversion rate will vary.
- There is no set rate. The conversion rate may vary by origin, destination, point of sale, flight code, date, season, fare, cabin, tier, Emirates sales channel, or any combination thereof. When you book your ticket and any related product or service on emirates.com, the payment page is where you will see the exact conversion rate that applies. For Cash+Miles on flydubai Flights, you can book your ticket on flydubai.com and on the payment page, you will see the exact conversion rate that applies.
There is no minimum amount for using Cash+Miles on Emirates or flydubai flights. You can contribute any amount of Skywards Miles towards the cost of your ticket and select flight related product. We’ll work out the relevant cash amount* to take off your fare.
*The conversion rate will vary.
- While Classic Saver Rewards will generally provide the best value for members with sufficient Skywards Miles, during certain periods and on certain routes our base fares may convert to a level lower than Classic Rewards. To maximise your reward value, we recommend that you check both the Classic Reward and Cash+Miles quotations when searching your flights. Carrier imposed charges can be paid using either cash or Miles, taxes and fees are always paid for with cash.
You can pay for your ticket using Cash+Miles online at emirates.com, flydubai.com, or through Emirates retail outlets and Contact Centres.
On emirates.com - Log in to your account and choose the flight you want to book. On the payment page, you’ll have the option to use your Skywards Miles to reduce the cost of your ticket. Simply enter the number of Skywards Miles you want to convert, and we’ll instantly take the relevant amount* off your base fare.
On flydubai.com - Log in to your account and choose a flydubai flight and you can pay for your ticket and flight extras using Cash+Miles.
Emirates retail outlets and Contact Centres – You can visit any Emirates retail outlet or call your local Emirates Contact Centre and pay for your ticket using Cash+Miles.

Yes, your Skywards Miles will be refunded if you cancel a booking you paid for using Cash+Miles.
However, any Skywards Miles that expired within the purchase period will not be refunded to your account. If you have completed part of your journey and want to cancel and refund the rest, your ticket will be re priced so only the unused percentage of Cash+Miles will be refunded to you.
Skywards Miles used to pay for related products and services are non refundable unless the cancellation or change is involuntary or due to operational reasons.
When traveling with Emirates and flydubai, you can use Cash+Miles to also pay for:
- Lounge Access (Emirates)
- Excess Baggage (Emirates & flydubai)
- Paid Seat Selection (Emirates & flydubai)
- Meals (flydubai)
- Insurance (flydubai)
- Yes, you can change any seat that you paid for using Cash+Miles, subject to availability. However, you can only pay with cash if there is a price difference between the seats.
- Yes, you can pay online for lounge access using a combination of Cash+Miles.
- It is not possible to combine Skywards Miles from two separate accounts; you can, however, transfer Skywards Miles between accounts or buy Skywards Miles for yourself or gift to another member. For the avoidance of doubt, Skywards Skysurfers, My Family and Business Rewards accounts are not eligible to transfer, buy, or gift Miles.
Although your Skywards Miles must be redeemed before they expire, you can use them to book a reward ticket that is valid for up to 12 months. This means that even if you can’t travel before your Miles expire, you can still redeem them now for a future trip.
If you have any Skywards Miles in your account that are due to expire in the next 3 months, you can pay to extend their validity for another 12 months beyond the date of the original expiry.
