Buy extra baggage allowance

Your standard baggage allowance depends on your route, class of travel, fare type, and Emirates Skywards membership tier. You can buy extra baggage allowance online for less than you would pay at the airport. You can also use a combination of Cash+Miles to bring down the amount of cash you need to pay for your excess baggage. Otherwise, in most cases you can pay for extra baggage allowance at the check-in desk in the local currency, or through your local Emirates office at current exchange rates.

You can buy extra baggage allowance on adult and child tickets, but not on infant tickets. Tickets must be issued by Emirates (our ticket numbers start with 176) and flights must be operated and marketed by Emirates. Check the terms and conditions for more details.

You may need to give yourself some extra time at the airport if you think your baggage may be over your standard allowance.

Please note that we may not have the facility to accept cash or debit card payments at selected airports. Customers should be prepared to make payment for ancillary services using a credit card.

If the baggage allowance on your ticket is based on weight (known as the Weight Concept), you can purchase additional kilograms (kg).With the weight concept, you can check in as many bags as you like as long as the total weight does not exceed the maximum weight for your class of travel.

Each individual bag must weigh less than 32kg and the total dimensions (length + width + height) of an individual bag should not exceed exceed 203 cm (79.92 inches). Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 203 cm (79.92 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage, and must be sent as cargo or freight.

Buying additional weight before you check in

Save 50% to 60% on the airport check-in baggage fees by purchasing your baggage in advance.

• Discounts are only available online or at our retail and contact centres up to 4 hours before departure.
• You can buy extra baggage allowance in blocks of 5kg, up to a maximum of 50kg.

For example:

If you travel from London to India, you would get a 50% discount on the fee for an extra 5kg, and a 60% discount for an extra 20kg.

Regional classification

If the baggage allowance on your ticket is based on the number of pieces, you can purchase additional pieces online, at any of our offices, or at the airport. To find the number of pieces already included in your allowance, please check your ticket or go to Manage your booking.

The weight allowance for each additional piece is 23kg in Economy Class and Premium Economy, and 32kg in Business Class and First Class.

The total dimensions (length + width + height) of each checked baggage must not exceed 150 cm (59 inches). Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 150 cm (59.05 inches) but lower than 203 cm (79.92 inches) will be subject to oversize baggage fees. Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 203 cm (79.92 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage, and must be sent as cargo or freight.

Plan ahead and enjoy significant savings on extra baggage by purchasing before you travel on select routes. Adding extra baggage in advance means less stress at the airport and more freedom to pack.

• Travelling from New York to Dubai? Save 50% when you purchase 5 additional pieces together
• Travelling from New Delhi to San Francisco? Save 35% when you purchase 2 additional pieces together

• Available up to 4 hours before departure
• You can purchase up to 5 additional pieces on top of your standard baggage allowance
• Discounts and advance purchase options for extra baggage may not be available on certain routes.

If you have purchased additional pieces of baggage on top of your standard allowance, and these exceed the size and weight limits, the following would be the cost per additional piece:

For operational and safety reasons, if you are checking in more than 15 pieces of baggage, we may not be able to transport all of your extra baggage on the same flight as you.

If that happens:

• We'll carry your extra baggage on the next available flight and deliver your bags to you within five days.
• Our excess baggage terms and conditions apply.
• The Montreal Convention 1999 or the Warsaw Convention 1929 (as amended) will apply to your extra baggage as though it had been carried on the same flight as you. Your baggage will only be considered delayed under these conventions if it does not arrive within five days after your flight. 

Please note this is not applicable for flights to and from the United States.

Emirates reserves the right to deny acceptance of any additional excess baggage purchase at check-in, for safety and operational reasons.
