OUR RUGBY SPONSORSHIPS

An extensive portfolio of top-class rugby events

Boasting a rich heritage in the game, Emirates’ extensive portfolio of top-class rugby sponsorships was best demonstrated by its becoming the first worldwide partner of Rugby World Cup 2011.

Emirates boasts a rich rugby heritage with its extensive portfolio of top-class rugby sponsorships. It first sponsored the RWC 2007 in France as a Tournament Sponsor, then became a Worldwide Partner for RWC 2011 in New Zealand and recently became the first Worldwide Partner to sign an agreement for both Rugby World Cup 2015 and 2019, to be held in England and Japan, respectively.

Emirates strives to reflect the core values of the game and enrich the experiences of rugby fans across the globe. It has been the Title Sponsor of the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens for over 20 years, helping to firmly establish this vibrant tournament as one of the best events on the HSBC Sevens World Series circuit. Emirates is also proud to sponsor the Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens, the penultimate event on the annual series calendar.

Its partnership with USA Rugby has Emirates' logo displayed on the uniforms of the US Eagles men’s, women’s, and Sevens rugby teams. Emirates can also be found at the center of the action at every international rugby match through its sponsorship of the IRB’s elite panel of referees, who always take to the field in their "Fly Emirates" uniforms.

A WORLD FIRST

Rugby World Cup 2015 & 2019

In January 2014, Emirates announced a sponsorship agreement for Rugby World Cup 2015 and 2019, which will be held in England and Japan, respectively.

Emirates also extended its sponsorship of the International Rugby Board’s (IRB) match officials through the end of 2019; this agreement includes for the first time in Rugby World Cup (RWC) history the rights to brand the shirts of match officials on the field of play during the tournament. Since the inception of RWC in 1987, no brand has ever featured on the uniforms of players or match officials.

In terms of the agreement, Emirates will be an official Worldwide Partner of Rugby World Cup 2015 and 2019, as well as the event's official airline.

RWC 2015 kicks off on September 18 at Twickenham Stadium in London, with hosts England taking on a qualifying national team from the Oceana 1 region. The match schedule will see 25 matches played in dedicated rugby venues, 7 in multi-event stadia, and 16 in soccer venues. This blend of venues will provide a variety of Rugby World Cup match-day experiences and more than two million opportunities for fans to engage with one of the world’s most recognizable major sports events.

AT THE HEART OF THE GAME

IRB Referees and Match Officials

Emirates is at the center of every international rugby match through its sponsorship of the IRB’s referees.

The elite pool of officials who take charge of the sport’s biggest matches wear Emirates on their shirts, ensuring we are with them at the heart of the action on the pitch, and on the touchlines too.

THE OFFICIAL AIRLINE OF USA RUGBY

USA Rugby

In the 2009/2010 season, Emirates signed a five-year deal to become the official airline of USA Rugby, as well as the team and exclusive team uniform sponsor. As part of the deal, Emirates receives visible brand presence in stadia, as well as match-day and non-match-day collateral, online and on the front of uniforms for the Eagles Men’s and Women’s 15- and 7-side teams.

Emirates is involved at all USAR events. The airline is the title sponsor of a number of domestic events that are growing in popularity, including Emirates Men’s Division 1, 2, and 3 Club Championships; Emirates Women’s Division 1 and 2 Club Championships; Emirates Men’s Club 7s; Emirates Women’s All Star 7s; Emirates Super League Final; and Emirates Women’s Premier League Final.

The deal with USAR is an ideal fit for Emirates because rugby is one of the fastest-growing sports in the US, which is a priority growth market for the airline; increased broadcast hours of the sport on major TV platforms and the growing stature of US national teams within world rugby promise more exposure in the future.

The airline also sponsors the Rugby World Cup 2015 and 2019, Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens, and Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens, as well as IRB Referees and Match Officials.

SUPPORTING ONE OF THE BEST

HSBC Sevens World Series

As long-term supporters of rugby in Dubai, Emirates has been a sponsor of the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens (opens in a new window) for more than 20 years, as the tournament has firmly established itself as one of the best on the HSBC Sevens World Series circuit.

The Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens celebrate its 45th year in 2014; Emirates has been the event’s Official Sponsor since 1988. As the second stop on the nine-leg HSBC Sevens World Series, the Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens brings more than 3,000 rugby players and 100,000 spectators through the gates at The Sevens, Dubai’s Emirates-sponsored premier sports and events venue.

Emirates is also proud to sponsor the Emirates Airline Glasgow Sevens, the penultimate event on the HSBC Sevens World Series calendar.
