We’ll forgive you for letting slip an audible smirk as you recline on a deck chair to watch the tangerine sun slide into the sea behind the craggy cliffs. Because there’s all-inclusive – limp buffets, unruly stag weekends – and then there’s Cape Weligama.

Sri Lanka’s latest luxury hotel, Cape Weligama is on the south coast of the country just a 30-minute drive from the World Heritage List town of Galle. Picking up the baton from its sister hotel Ceylon Tea Trails, it is rapidly becoming the island’s most sought after spot; think butler-attended colonial-style villas decked out in beachy colours and terraced designs of architect Lek Bunnag and you’re getting there.

With 40 villas stretching over five hectares, it’s private enough to feel like a sanctuary, but not too isolated for sightseeing. But when you have swoon-worthy panoramas, crescent-shaped infinity pools and fantastic cuisine on tap, leaving the grounds might prove a little difficult.
