There are 37 FAQs for Emirates Skywards: Earning Miles and Miles Accelerator.
The fare is the price paid for a ticket. The fare has an effect on the conditions and restrictions that will apply to the ticket.
Base Miles are the standard Miles earned on any Emirates ticket. The benchmark for base Miles is an Economy Class Flex ticket, which represents 100% of base Miles.
Using our Miles Calculator, you can view the total Miles earned on a particular ticket. Total Miles are made up of base Miles for the zone/s you are flying in plus the various cabin class and tier bonuses on offer.
Yes you do. We remain one of the few frequent flyer programmes to offer reward Miles on all fares, which applies to both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles.
A Skywards Saver fare is an Emirates fare with any of the following conditions:
(a) eligibility restrictions (such as fares for students, seniors, or companions)
(b) a limited period in which you can purchase the ticket
(c) limited seat availability and restricted conditions (such as minimum/maximum stay, flight restrictions or advance purchase)
If you are taking a trip which is booked as a single journey but involves flying with different carriers that include Emirates, then Saver fare conditions will apply.
Saver fares earn 50% of base Miles – this applies to both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles.
A Skywards Flex fare does not include any eligibility or purchase restrictions. This type of fare also earns you more Miles than a Saver fare. Flex fares earn 100% of base Miles – this applies to both Skywards Miles and Tier Miles. In addition, if you want to upgrade to a higher class, Flex tickets can be upgraded for fewer Skywards Miles.
A featured fare is a fare advertised for a shorter time than usual, which has restrictions such as limited validity and travel dates, usually dependent on the departure airport.
A featured fare earns you Miles at the same rate as a Saver fare.
You can view a detailed Miles breakdown for any ticket by logging into your Emirates Skywards account and checking your Upcoming Travel. Details can also be found in Manage a Booking.
The fare type is often also displayed under ‘additional information’ on your eticket.
When searching for flights on emirates.com, all the fares displayed indicate whether they are Skywards Flex or Skywards Saver fares, along with any applicable Miles Accelerator bonuses. You can only see this information when you are logged into your Emirates Skywards account.
If you only want to view Flex fares, check the Skywards Flex fares tick box when you search for flights on the Make a Booking page. Please note: Flex fares will only be displayed if Flex tickets are available on the route you have selected.
When you are searching for or booking a flight, we will advise what type of fares are available. This is not restricted by the class you choose to travel in. For example, you could have either a Flex or a Saver fare in Economy Class, Business Class or First Class. You can also have special fares in any class of travel.
When flying Emirates, Silver members receive 25% bonus Skywards Miles, Gold members receive 50% bonus Skywards Miles and Platinum members receive 75% bonus. The percentage is calculated from the base Miles earned on the ticket purchased.
If you fly Emirates Business Class or First Class, you will receive 75% and 150% bonus Miles respectively. This is applicable to both Tier Miles and Skywards Miles. The percentage is calculated from the base Miles earned on the ticket you have purchased.
If your ticket is split between different fare types, you will earn a different number of Miles for each part of your journey that is booked on a different fare. If your ticket is split between cabin classes, you will be eligible for bonus Miles on the Business Class or First Class part of your journey.
It depends on what suits your needs at the time of booking. Saver fares are always cheaper than Flex fares. However, a Flex fare always earns more Skywards and Tier Miles, so can be useful if you are trying to boost your Miles to reach the next tier or save up for a reward. Flex fares can also have other benefits such as no eligibility or purchase restrictions. In addition, fewer Skywards Miles are required to upgrade a Flex ticket to a higher cabin class.
If you choose to buy a Skywards Flex fare, the ‘flexibility’ usually relates to eligibility and purchase restrictions, and how you earn Skywards and Tier Miles, and not to changing your fare conditions. As every ticket is unique, it’s best to check the fare rules when making your booking.
However, if you are buying a Flex reward flight with Skywards Miles then in this case ticket changes are usually free.
Miles are credited to your account after you’ve physically flown from your origin airport to your destination airport. They are credited in two stages, firstly when you have finished the outbound part of your trip and again when you have completed the inbound voyage. So if you fly from London to Sydney return, you are credited Miles once you arrive in Sydney and again when you return to London.
Stopovers have no effect on the amount of Miles earned and are not counted as a destination. So, if you stopover in Dubai on your way to Sydney from London, you would still only receive your Miles credit once you arrive in Sydney.
If you do not complete all your ticketed flights (for instance if part of your ticket is refunded or voided), we will credit Miles for any flights you have flown as soon as you submit the remainder of your ticket for cancellation or refund. An Emirates Contact Centre can assist you with this.
You can collect Skywards Miles just by making purchases with your credit card. If you have an Emirates co-branded credit card with Al Ahli Bank of Kuwait, Citibank, Emirates Islamic Bank, Emirates NBD or Standard Chartered Bank India, we will automatically credit your Emirates Skywards account with any Miles you have earned each month. If you hold a credit card with one of our other bank partners, please contact your credit card provider for more information or to ask for points to be transferred to your Emirates Skywards account.
If you are the principal of a Family Bonus programme, you will earn 20% of base Miles collected by nominated family members. Learn more about the Family Bonus programme.
Family Bonus members only earn Skywards Miles at the rate of 20% of base Miles plus any Business or First Class bonuses.
Only Emirates Skywards members are entitled to excess baggage allowances. Family Bonus members are not entitled to lounge access by merit of membership in the Family Bonus programme; however, Platinum members may invite family travelling with them into the airport lounge. Please see the separate FAQ on lounge access for guests. Platinum members can also nominate a spouse or partner for Gold membership and all its entitlements.
Family Bonus members do not have to be accompanied by the Family Bonus principal on flights, all they have to do is to provide their membership number or card at the time of booking or check-in. Membership cards are mailed to the Family Bonus principal once he or she has qualified for an Emirates Skywards membership card.
