What to do in Malta

Visit the National Museum of Archaeology

Malta’s National Museum of Archaeology offers a chance to explore all of the city's history under one roof. Presented across two floors, there are more than enough artefacts to keep you entertained, even if you only have a passing interest in archaeology.

Visit Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum

This incredible archaeological site is the only known prehistoric underground temple in the world. It was initially used as a sanctuary, but then was turned into a necropolis. To date, more than 7,000 human remains have been discovered here. It’s unique and therefore booking is essential – sometimes up to six weeks in advance.

Explore Marsaxlokk Bay Fish Market

This used to be just a fish market but became so popular with visitors that now other local produce stalls have sprung up. There's a great range of Mediterranean fish on offer, although it would be worth the 40-minute trip from Valletta just to see the pretty fishing boats bobbing in the bay.

Explore Gozo and Comino

You could easily spend the full duration of your Malta holiday exploring the stunning sister islands of Gozo and Comino. Gozo has plenty of prehistoric sites and in mythology is Calypso’s island in Homer’s Odyssey. Comino boasts a beautiful blue lagoon and some of the most crystal clear waters in the region.
