There are 38 Emirates Group commercial buildings in Dubai. These include offices, warehouses, training centres, catering facilities, and engineering workshops and hangars. The Group also provides accommodation for over 20,000 of its staff in Dubai, taking responsibility for payment of electricity, water and waste service charges. This accommodation includes both apartments and houses.
As a result of its harsh climatic conditions and rapid development, it is widely acknowledged that the UAE has one of the largest per capita ecological footprints of any country in the world (WWF Living Planet Report, 2010). As such, great efforts are being made to reduce Emirates energy and water consumption. The company has identified key performance indicators to analyse the overall environmental performance of the Group, in relation to known, published data for the UAE. These have been published in the Emirates Environmental Report.
A number of energy and water savings projects are being studied for implementation across the Group's built environment in the coming year.
