Emirates’ relationship with the International Cricket Council (ICC) dates back to 2002 when the airline signed a deal with international cricket’s governing body to sponsor the Emirates Elite Panels of Umpires and Match Referees.
Since then, Emirates’ standing has grown to that of Official Worldwide Partner and given the airline sponsorship rights to all major ICC tournaments, including the ICC Cricket World Cup, ICC Champions Trophy and ICC World Twenty20. Emirates’ partnership also extends to the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, ICC Under-19 World Cup, ICC Intercontinental Cup and the ICC Women's World Cup.
Most recently, Emirates’ sponsorship of the 2012 World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka saw the airline support a number of initiatives in the local market including the Murali Cup – a pioneering community-focussed schools tournament which brings together youth players from diverse backgrounds across Sri Lanka to share their joy of cricket and help those less fortunate.
In 2013, Emirates will have significant presence at the ICC Champions Trophy tournament, to be contested in England and Wales in June.
