It is important to be aware of what you can and cannot take with you when you fly.

Emirates customers traveling from Canada or North or South America can enjoy our generous checked baggage allowances.

From Canada, North America:

  • Two bags of up to 23 kg (50 lbs) each in Economy Class
  • Two bags of up to 32 kg (71 lbs) each in First Class and Business Class

From South America:

  • Two bags of up to 32 kg (71 lbs) each in all classes

Piece concept

For tickets issued on or after November 15, 2014
Total dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece must not exceed 150 cm (59 inches). Customers with individual items exceeding above dimensions up to 300 cm (118 inches) will be charged an additional fee. Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 300 cm (118 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage and must be sent as cargo or freight.

For customers with two pieces of luggage in all three classes, the total combined dimensions of both pieces should not exceed 300 cm (118 inches).

For tickets issued prior to November 15, 2014
Total dimensions (length+ width+ height) of each piece must not exceed 158 cm (62 inches). For Economy Class customers with two pieces of luggage, the total combined dimensions of both pieces must not exceed 273 cm (107 inches). Customers with baggage exceeding these dimensions will be charged an additional fee.

Note: if your travel starts in the United States and the first carrier on your booking is not Emirates, that carrier’s baggage policy may apply for the whole itinerary, in accordance with US Department of Transportation regulations—learn more.

Baggage Policy for other destinations
For itineraries that do not include Canada or North or South America, customers can check in 30 kg in Economy Class, 40 kg in Business Class, and 50 kg in First Class.

However for travel on Emirates from Australia, New Zealand or Asia to North or South America which includes a sector in Europe or Africa, the weight concept will apply for the entire ticketed journey.

Weight concept

For tickets issued on or after November 15, 2014 Individual items with total dimensions exceeding 300 cm (118 inches) cannot be transported as checked baggage and must be sent as cargo or freight. There are no exceptions to this rule.

For tickets issued prior to November 15, 2014 Items beyond 300 cm (118 inches) and up to 400 cm (157 inches) in length may be accepted in exceptional cases. Please contact your local Emirates office for details at least 7 working days prior to traveling with such items. Items exceeding this limit must be referred to Emirates SkyCargo. If the free baggage allowance is exceeded, normal excess charges apply.

Interline Baggage Policy

If your travel starts in the United States and the first carrier on your booking is not Emirates, different rules may apply—learn more.

Interline flights are flights that are on the same ticket as your Emirates flights, but are operated by another airline and do not have an Emirates flight number. These airlines may have different baggage allowances from Emirates. Refer to the Interline Partner Baggage Allowance page for information on the allowance or charges for carry-on baggage and the first and second checked bags.
