When do I get Smart Gate access?

Emirates Skywards members no longer need to have a Smart Gate–enabled Emirates Skywards card to use the Smart Gates at Dubai International Airport and Abu Dhabi International Airport.

If you’re a UAE resident, you can use your UAE ID at the Smart Gates.

If your passport is issued by one of the UAE's visa waiver countries, you can register with an immigration officer upon entering or exiting the country. Once registered, you will be able to use the Smart Gates.

Eligible visa-waiver countries are: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Seychelles, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States, and Vatican City. We try to keep this information as up to date as possible; however, for the definitive list, please contact General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs–Dubai(opens an external website in a new tab).

If you still have an Emirates Skywards Smart Gate–enabled card, you can continue to use it at the Smart Gates at Dubai and Abu Dhabi International Airports.
