Airport newsAfter the completion of Terminal 3 in 2010, three more terminals and two more runways are planned by 2026, to accommodate an expected increase to 100 million passengers a year.
Transfer between terminalsA free shuttle bus, which runs every 20 minutes, links the two domestic terminals and the international terminal.
Driving directionsNew Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport is located just off National Highway 8, which leads from Delhi to Mumbai. Follow the highway southwards from the city center; the airport is clearly signed.
Car rentalThere is no dedicated facility for renting self-drive cars at the airport, as these are not generally available in India. Instead, Carzonrent offers chauffeur-driven cars as well as limited self-drive options; it has desks in the arrivals areas of the terminals.
Public transport and taxisBus: Express buses (route 4), operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (www.dtc.nic.in), run from the arrivals areas of the terminals to central Delhi 24 hours a day (travel time: 50 minutes; fare: Rs50).
Coach: An air-conditioned coach service is available; reservations and information are available in the arrivals hall of Terminal 3.
Taxi: Prepaid taxi booths, located in the arrivals areas, issue vouchers for travel to the city; travelers should retain the receipt until reaching the desired destination and then hand it to the driver. Avoid the many touts operating at the airport. Among the operators are Meru Cabs (tel: (011) 4422 4422; www.merucabs.com), Mega Cabs (tel: (011) 4141 4141; www.megacabs.com), and Easy Cabs (tel: (011) 4343 4343; www.easycabs.com). Metered taxis and auto rickshaws are also available.
Metro: Delhi Metro's (tel: (011) 2256 1231; www.delhimetrorail.com) recently extended Orange line connects directly with Terminal 3. The travel time to central New Delhi is 18 minutes, and the single fare is Rs150.
Car parkingShort- and long-term parking are available at each terminal. The large multistory parking garage at Terminal 3 can house more than 4,000 cars and also offers space for motorcycles. The parking faciliity at Terminal 1 is just 100 meters (109 yards) from the terminal complex.
Information and help desksThere are information counters in all terminals. For inquiries and 24-hour information and assistance, contact the Airport Manager's Offices in the terminals. English is widely spoken throughout India.
Airport FacilitiesMoney: Banks, bureau de change facilities, and ATMs are available in the terminals.
Communications: Public telephones and postal facilities are widely available. Wi-Fi access (free for the first 20 minutes) is offered throughout the airport.
Food: There are numerous places to eat in both the arrivals and departures areas of the domestic and international terminals. The Terminal 3 departures area has the largest selection of restaurants, bars, cafés, and fast-food outlets.
Shopping: Duty-free shopping is available in Terminal 3, which has a vast amount of retail space that boasts designer brands such as Boggi and Versace. Terminal 1 also has a good range of shops ranging from confectioners to souvenir retailers.
Luggage: There is a left-luggage facility in the connector building between the terminals. Baggage wrapping services are available in Terminal 3. Lost property inquiries should be directed to the Airport Manager’s Office (tel: (011) 4965 2022) in Terminal 1.
Other facilities: The medical centers in each terminal are manned by doctors 24 hours a day. Rest rooms and baby-care rooms are available at all terminals. Additionally, Terminal 3 has lounges and nap and shower rooms.
Conference and business facilitiesThe AMEX Platinum Lounge is available to cardholders in Terminal 1. Plaza Premium Lounge runs five executive lounges in Terminal 3; these offer a range of services from work space to massages and refreshments. Conference and banqueting facilities are available at the Radisson Blu Plaza Delhi hotel (tel: (011) 2677 9191; www.radissonblu.com), which is a short distance from the airport.
Disabled facilitiesToilets and ambulift facilities are available for disabled travelers; passengers should request any special assistance needed when booking their tickets. There is a dedicated parking area for disabled travelers. Terminal 3 was constructed to be barrier-free for passengers with reduced mobility.
