As part of Emirates’ sponsorship of the US Tennis Association (USTA), which made the airline the title sponsor of the Emirates Airline US Open Series, Emirates also became the official airline of the US Open in 2012.
After two weeks of memorable tennis action, Andy Murray won his first Grand Slam, defeating defending Champion Novak Djokovic in an epic five-set encounter, while in the women’s draw Serena Williams stormed to her fourth US Open title.
Emirates celebrated its partnership with the US Open on “Emirates Day,” with three in-stadia programs for tennis fans to win a trip to Dubai. Additionally, fan cam technology captured a 360-degree photo of the Emirates Day crowd, who were able to find and tag themselves on the online image.
Emirates also hosted a number of guests in the Emirates Airline Luxury Suite, including celebrities such as Jordin Sparks, Eva Longoria, and John McEnroe, who enjoyed the tennis action from one of the most exclusive locations in Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Elsewhere, Emirates gave fans the opportunity to partake in an iconic US Open tradition usually reserved for winning players, who hit balls into the stands to celebrate victory. Using state-of-the art technology, visitors to the Emirates Airline Ball Flight Experience entered a simulation of court level at Arthur Ashe Stadium and used a 3D racquet to hit virtual balls out of the to one of Emirates’ global destinations. Participants were then able to share their experiences at a Social Media Visualizer, connecting tennis fans worldwide.
