Emirates is proud to include the Maybank Malaysian Open in its impressive sponsorship portfolio of golfing events around the word. The existing sponsorship deal sees the airline named as the event’s official airline until 2015, enabling Emirates to communicate with existing and potential customers through their shared passion.
The Maybank Malaysian Open was cosanctioned with the European Tour in 1999 as part of the latter’s expansion into Asia, which began in 1989. Held at the recently refurbished Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, the Maybank Malaysian Open has established itself as one of the leading golf events in the region, in 2011 boasting a prize fund of US$2.5 million.
As part of its role as the official airline of the event, Emirates has hosted pro-am tournaments, golf clinics, and private golf days for invited guests ahead of the main event in Kuala Lumpur. Emirates has also invited guests and selected media to enjoy hospitality in a corporate marquee overlooking the 18th green.
The 2012 Maybank Malaysian Open was won by South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen just a week after he finished runner-up to Bubba Waston at The Masters.
Emirates also sponsors the Ryder Cup, UBS Hong Kong Open, Dubai World Championship, BMW International Open 2012, Japan Open, WGC-HSBC Champions, Emirates Australian Open Championship, Australian PGA Championship, Austrian Golf Open, Avantha Masters, Ballantine’s Championship, Barclays Singapore Open, Thailand Open, and Alstom Open de France.
