In September 2012, Emirates strengthened its partnership with the European Tour by renewing its sponsorship of the golf season’s grand finale, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Emirates will be the official airline of the European Tour’s showpiece event—staged at Jumeirah Golf Estates’ Earth course—for the next three years.
The DP World Tour Championship is the climax of the Race to Dubai, a season-long competition spanning 46 tournaments played in 25 different destinations across the globe to decide who is Europe’s number one player.
In the 2012 event, Rory McIlroy capped a remarkable season with victory at the DP World Tour Championship on a dramatic final day at Jumeirah Golf Estates, cementing his position as the world’s best player. McIlroy held off not only world number two and playing partner Luke Donald, but also Justin Rose, whose Earth Course record 62 had threatened to spoil the Northern Irishman’s lap of honor after a year in which he won the Race to Dubai, the US PGA Championship, and the money list in America.
The 2013 DP World Tour Championship will take place November 14–17, 2013.
Emirates also sponsors the Ryder Cup, UBS Hong Kong Open, BMW International Open 2012, Japan Open, WGC-HSBC Champions, Emirates Australian Open Championship, Australian PGA Championship, Austrian Golf Open, Avantha Masters, Ballantine’s Championship, Barclays Singapore Open, Maybank Malaysian Open, Thailand Open, Alstom Open de France, Irish Open, Emirates Airline Invitational, and Boeing Classic.
