In September 2012, Emirates strengthened its partnership with the European Tour by renewing its sponsorship of the golf season’s grand finale, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
The DP World Tour Championship is the climax of the Race to Dubai, a season-long competition spanning 46 tournaments played in 25 different destinations across the globe to decide who is Europe’s number one player.
In the recent 2013 event, Henrik Stenson hailed a "dream season" as he claimed a historic double by storming to victory in the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
Stenson became the first man to win the Race to Dubai and the FedEx Cup on the US PGA Tour, thanks to a commanding six-shot victory at Jumeirah Golf Estates.
The 37-year-old carded a flawless closing 64, signing off in style with a tap-in eagle on the 18th, to finish with a tournament-record total of 25 under par, with money-list rival Ian Poulter a close second with a 66.
Emirates also sponsors the BMW International Open, Alstom Open de France, Maybank Malaysian Open, Lyoness Open, the Irish Open, Ballantine’s Championship, the WGC-HSBC Champions, the Hong Kong Open, the Boeing Classic, the Thailand Open, the Emirates Australian Open, and the Australian PGA Championship.
