Select city
Most visitors begin their trip to Uganda in Kampala, the country’s capital city. It’s a mishmash of old and new Africa, from lively markets and street hawker stalls to modern, trendy restaurants and nightlife venues. Plus, a selection of some of the very best high-end hotels in the country, all set in a gorgeous, garden-filled district.

When it comes to wildlife and natural beauty, Uganda is one of the best travel destinations in the world. Not only is it the source of the Nile, Uganda has Africa’s largest lake in the form of Lake Victoria, home of the continent’s largest inland fishery.

Start your travels in Jinja, which is located on the shores of the lake. It’s home to numerous adventure travel companies that will accommodate your every need, whether that means white water rafting along the Nile or horse riding tours of the stunning surrounding area.

The sheer diversity of flora and fauna on offer is incredible. It’s one of the few places in the world where you can spot all of Africa’s Big Five – elephants, lions, rhinos, leopards and buffalo. But the biggest draw for a lot of visitors is the chance to head into the jungle on a gorilla safari. Seeing these majestic, shy beasts is a true once-in-a-life time experience (and you might get to spot a chimpanzee or two as well).

It's no wonder that Winston Churchill once called this country the Pearl of Africa.

The best restaurants, hotels and things to do in Entebbe capture the city’s laidback, increasingly cosmopolitan vibe. There are plentiful dining options lining the shores of Lake Victoria, many offering a colourful collection of international dishes and great views. The more adventurous can explore the city’s winding backstreets, where great restaurants appear to be little more than innocuous shacks. Entebbe is enjoying a surge in new, high-end hotels too – with many lining the picturesque shores of Lake Victoria ensuring guests enjoy great views as well as relaxing luxury.
