Airport newsHamburg Airport completed a major development programme in 2009, which included construction of a new terminal, completion of a dedicated S-Bahn suburban rail connection to the city centre, and development of an expanded commercial area. In 2013, a greatly expanded lounge facility was added.
Transfer between terminalsThe terminals are linked by the Airport Plaza facility. A free shuttle bus runs between the terminals and to car park P6.
Driving directionsHamburg Airport is situated between ring roads R2 and R3 on the B433, and is easily accessible and well-signposted from central Hamburg. The A7 Autobahn provides a connection to the airport at exit 23, Schnelsen-Nord.
Car rentalCar hire companies at Hamburg Airport include: Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt and Terstappen. Booking counters for these operators are located on the ground floor of Terminal 2.
Public transport and taxisBus: Numerous HVV (tel: (040) 19449; www.hvv.de) bus services run to the city centre and other points around Hamburg (fare: €3). The night bus 606 stops at the main railway station. Shuttle services to and from Bremen and several destinations in the region are also available.
Taxi: Taxi services to central Hamburg are readily available outside both terminals. The journey time and fare varies according to the time of day, but prices generally start at around €25. Official taxis are cream in colour. Pre-booking is available – links to numerous taxi companies can be found on the airport website, including Hansa Taxi (tel: (040 211 211; www.taxi211211.de), Taxi Hamburg (tel: (04) 666 666; www.taxihamburg.de) and Taxiruf (tel: (04) 441 011; www.autoruf.de).
Rail: The S-Bahn route S1 (tel: (040) 3918 4385; www.s-bahn-hamburg.de) links Hamburg Airport directly with Hamburg’s central station (journey time: 25 minutes; fare: €3). The station is directly in front of the terminals.
Car parkingParking at Hamburg Airport is available at six car parks, four of which offer short- and long-term rates close to the terminals; two are further away, cheaper, and are aimed at leisure travellers. Parking can be booked via the airport website, otherwise an 'intelligent' indicator system guides drivers to the nearest suitable available spaces. Valet parking is available (tel: (040) 5131 9363).
Information and help desksAirport information desks are located in Terminals 1 and 2. The Airport Office, located in the Airport Plaza on the arrivals level, provides airport information, travel tickets, event ticket sales, hotel reservations and other services. It is open from 0600 to 2300 daily.
Airport FacilitiesMoney: Monetary facilities include a bank, bureau de change and ATMs within the terminals.
Communications: Telephones and paid-for Wi-Fi internet access are available throughout the terminals. A post office is located in Terminal 2.
Food: There are many restaurants, bars and cafés at Hamburg Airport; these can be found in the Airport Plaza and in the terminals both pre- and post-security.
Shopping: There is a wide variety of shops (including duty-free for non-EU travellers) in both terminals and on both levels of the Airport Plaza. Among these are souvenir retailers, fashion boutiques and bookshops.
Luggage: Advance reservations can be made for a porter service (tel: (040) 5075 2010). Luggage trolleys are available for a small deposit. There is a left-luggage facility (tel: (040) 5075 2923) in the Terminal 2 arrivals area. Lost property is handled by the Airport Office (tel: (040) 50750).
Other facilities: Hamburg Airport has a pharmacy and a Red Cross medical centre. Other options include a casino area, a hairdresser, shoeshine facilities and a casino.
Conference and business facilitiesThe Airport Office (tel: (040) 50750) provides a range of business services, including fax, photocopying and typing. Executive lounges are located on level 2 of Terminal 2. VIP services are also available (tel: (040) 5075 2012).The Airport Conference Centre Mövenpick (tel: (040) 5075 3338), in Terminal 2, offers 14 meeting rooms; the Airport Conference Centre Lilienthalhaus (tel: (040) 5075 2500) also provides seven conference venues, accommodating up to 90 delegates, with audiovisual and other equipment for hire. There is also the large Terminal Tango (tel: (040) 5075 3607) event space in the former Charter Terminal.Many of the airport hotels also offer meeting and conference facilities, notably the Radisson Blu Hamburg Airport (tel: (040) 300 3000; www.radissonblu.com), which is adjacent to the terminal complex and offers 15 meeting rooms.
Disabled facilitiesDisabled travellers are asked to notify their airline and the airport information desk (tel: (040) 50750) of their needs, prior to travel. Hamburg Airport is accessible to wheelchairs, and disabled toilets are located throughout. Parking spaces for the disabled can be found near the terminals, with disabled parking in the multistorey area located near the exits. A door-to-door transfer service, as well as wheelchair push and provision, is offered by DRK Mediservice (tel: (040) 5075 3353).

Ibis Hamburg Airport
