If you trace the history of China’s rise to global economic ‘power-house’, you’ll find yourself at the north of the Pearl River Delta. This is home to its jewel in the crown – the city of Guangzhou.
It wasn’t until 1648 that Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty allowed foreigners to trade with or inside China. To begin with, only four cities were open for business. Guangzhou was one of them. Today, its importance is equalled by its manufacturing might. Everything is made in the ‘factory of the world’.
