Baggage Allowances and Rules

The amount of baggage you may check in and take with you on board your Emirates flight varies depending on your route and travel class. There are also safety and security rules regarding the transport of liquids, dangerous goods and certain other items.

Checked baggage allowance

The amount of checked baggage you are allowed to fly with depends on your class of travel and route*. You may check in extra baggage above the allowed weight for a cost per kilogram or piece, depending on your route. Please allow time to make this purchase at the airport.

Baggage allowance by route

For travel to and from all destinations on the Emirates route network except those detailed in the table below, the free baggage allowance is:

  • First Class: Total weight of up to 40 kg.
  • Business Class: Total weight of up to 30 kg.
  • Economy Class: Total weight of up to 20 kg.

IMPORTANT: Dubai Civil Aviation prohibits the acceptance of bags that weigh more than 32 kg per single piece, into, out of, or via Dubai International Airport.

Additional allowance for Skywards Silver and Gold members

As a Skywards Gold or Silver member, you are entitled to additional free baggage allowances on Emirates flights whenever your normal baggage allowance is reflected in kilograms (kgs) on your ticket. Please refer to the Member Benefits section of skywards.com for details.

Passengers travelling with infants

Passengers in any class of service travelling to or from the USA, Canada or Brazil, who are travelling with infants, are entitled to an additional baggage allowance of one (1) piece of checked baggage, weighing 23 kg or less. For all other destinations, passengers with infants may check in an additonal 10 kg of baggage.

Excess baggage cost per piece

For journeys TO USA/Brazil/Canada, the rates above will be converted to Local Currency at the applicable exchange rate.

Baggage travelling to or from Brazil, the USA and / or Canada and weighing from 23kg to 32kg will be charged an additional USD 50 or CAD 50. The rates given above are for each piece of extra baggage over and above the Standard Free Baggage Allowance.
