The Big Bus Company offers the only open-topped bus tour in Dubai, which makes it a real joy in winter, and a little hot in summer. But it’s brilliantly organised and the running commentary is excellent. You can either listen to the English-speaking tour guide or opt for a headset with the language of your choice. Hopping on and off the bus gives you a real sense of the history, drive and direction taken by this city and its inhabitants.
The Red Tour takes you back in time through old Dubai, the major attractions being the Dubai Museum, Bastakia, the souks and the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House. The Blue Tour enables you to experience the more modern side of the city: the glitz and glamour of today’s coastline, peppered with striking architecture and five-star hotels, from the Burj Al-Arab to the Palm and the World Islands.
